The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise is venturing into new territory, making its debut at a Las Vegas racetrack.
In the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix, a car inspired by Gundam will take part in the race, with driver Yuki Tsunoda at the helm. The race car's design, as well as the driver's suit, draw inspiration from the beloved mecha franchise, paying tribute to Amuro Ray and the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam design. Additionally, the Formula 1 event will feature several Gundam statues, alongside Gunpla plastic model kits and figures based on the new Grand Prix Gundam design. Karim Farghaly, the president of Bandai Namco, expressed his thoughts on the partnership, stating that GUNDAM, one of the longest-running Sci-Fi franchises in the world, has always managed to resonate with fans worldwide. The franchise explores themes of heroism, overcoming adversity, and triumphing against all odds, which parallel the real-life challenges faced by Formula 1 drivers in each race. Scuderia AlphaTauri was chosen as a partner due to their shared vision and collaboration, as they work together to bring GUNDAM to life at the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix. This collaboration aims to create a lasting and significant experience for both Formula 1 enthusiasts and GUNDAM fans alike.

Since its debut in 1979, the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise has maintained its position as one of Japan's most beloved intellectual properties, particularly within the anime community. Over the years, the series has spawned numerous iterations, with accompanying plastic model kits that have become a cornerstone of its merchandise. Recently, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury achieved great success, captivating new audiences and expanding the already substantial fan base of Gundam.
However, the Gundam Grand Prix entry is not the only project on the horizon for the franchise. A new anime film, based on Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, is scheduled for release in 2024. Additionally, an upcoming anime for the popular Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans is in development, alongside the Western release of the mobile game Mobile Suit Gundam: U.C. Engage. As a long-time fan of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, I am thrilled to see it make its debut at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The Gundam-themed car and driver's suit are sure to be a hit with fans, and I can't wait to see them in action on the track.
In addition to the car and driver's suit, I'm also excited to see the Gundam statues and Gunpla plastic model kits and figures that will be on display at the event. These items will give fans a chance to get up close and personal with some of their favorite Gundam characters and machines.
