Spoiler Alert: Skull Island Season 1, Episode 8 Recap
The recent events in Netflix's Skull Island series have raised doubts about the possibility of Kong possessing his iconic powers in the upcoming movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. In Toho's version, Kong held a secret ability that played a pivotal role in his triumph over Godzilla. Following a brutal defeat at the hands of Godzilla in the epic clash King Kong vs. Godzilla, Kong's fate took a dramatic turn when he was struck by a electrifying bolt of lightning, empowering him and turning him into an unstoppable force.
As depicted in the epic clash between King Kong and Godzilla, the enormous and formidable monster possesses an intriguing characteristic when it comes to electricity. Remarkably, instead of weakening him, it actually empowers him in a peculiar manner. Furthermore, in the climactic battle, he showcased an astonishing ability to unleash bursts of electricity from his mighty hands, thereby stunning his adversaries. Although this electrifying addition was a creation of Toho's film, there has long been speculation that the MonsterVerse would embrace this capability as part of the monster's canonical powers. However, aside from a solitary scene in Godzilla vs. Kong where the HEAV (Hollow Earth Anti-Gravity Vehicle) was utilized to awaken Kong using an electric shock, these extraordinary abilities have not been acknowledged within the MonsterVerse. Consequently, the notion of Kong uncovering these hidden gifts in the highly anticipated film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, continues to fuel curiosity and speculation.
Kong’s Electrical Powers Should Have Been Activated In Skull Island (If He Has Them)
Skull Island, the MonsterVerse anime by Netflix, severely hampered Kong's chances of unleashing his electric powers in the upcoming sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong. Speculations suggest that a surge of electricity could trigger Kong's hidden abilities. A potential opportunity for this occurrence presented itself in the season 1 finale of Skull Island when Kong engaged in a fierce ocean battle against the primary antagonist of the show. During the confrontation, the squid-like Titan, possessing its own electrical powers, electrocuted Kong using its tentacles. If Kong possessed the same abilities as his Toho counterpart, this would have been the ideal moment for his powers to manifest. However, this anticipated event failed to transpire.
Kong found himself being relentlessly bombarded with electric shocks as the ferocious sea monster dragged him further and further beneath the turbulent waves. However, instead of deriving a second wind from these blasts and experiencing a surge of newfound energy, Kong's strength waned, and he was perilously close to surrendering. His salvation came in the unexpected form of a sunken ship nearby, which he cleverly wielded as a weapon, allowing him to break free and emerge victorious. The missed opportunity to unlock his latent electrical powers serves as a pivotal moment for the series; evidently, Kong does not possess these extraordinary abilities. Consequently, it becomes increasingly difficult to envision a scenario in which they manifest themselves during a potential sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong 2.
The presence of Skull Island in the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong film indicates that Kong may not receive his upgrade from the previous battle with Godzilla. However, this doesn't rule out the possibility of a power boost altogether. There is a potential alternative in the form of the Hollow Earth energy source. In the teaser trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire, a sinister member of Kong's species is introduced, distinguished by its glowing blue eyes. The unnatural nature of this feature, combined with the resemblance to Godzilla's power, hints that it may have discovered a means of harnessing the energy that flows through Godzilla's veins from the Hollow Earth. If this speculation holds true, it opens the door for Kong to also tap into this energy source, granting the MonsterVerse's iconic ape his very own unique upgrade.
