Goal Fest Bonanza: Saka and Rashford Shine as England Crush North Macedonia 7-0

England dominate North Macedonia in a spectacular 7-0 victory at Old Trafford Bukayo Saka shines with a remarkable hat-trick, alongside impressive performances from Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane A superb display by the Three Lions in their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign

Jordan Pickford - n/a

Living the dream, I found myself in goal for the second consecutive game. However, just like the previous match, I failed to make any saves.

Kyle Walker - 8

Unlike Kieran Trippier's lackluster performance on Friday night, I displayed more attacking intent and was rewarded with an assist for Saka's first goal. Despite being out of favor at Man City, I proved why I have been England's go-to player for such a long time.

Solid in possession and resisted the urge to take on the No 8 role he has recently played for Man City. He earned England a penalty in the second half and also had a wayward effort from a corner.

Stood up strongly to one early run and once again showed a more forward-looking approach compared to the other defensive pairing. He attempted 10 long balls and successfully connected with seven of them. Just before halftime, he almost provided an assist with a perfectly timed run and pass to Rashford. As North Macedonia tired, he also stepped out of defense more frequently, mostly with success.

Harry Kane showcased his exceptional skills once again during the match against North Macedonia, scoring his 58th goal for England. This impressive feat now places him five goals ahead as the Three Lions' all-time leading male scorer. Furthermore, Kane demonstrated his versatility on the field, spending an equal amount of time in the opposition's half as he did in Malta. However, unlike his previous performance, he was able to contribute even more with a crucial assist for the opening goal. Although he had a quieter second half, Kane's overall display was still highly commendable and showcased his unwavering confidence and ability.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 8

He may not wield the same level of influence as he did in Malta, but he continues to thrive in this newfound freedom on the field. It is a role that is still in its early stages but suits him, Gareth Southgate, and the English team. He contributed with an assist by delivering a perfectly executed pass to Saka, and he also played a part in another goal.

Jordan Henderson - 8

Perhaps he could have found the back of the net when he was slightly slow to react to a cross. However, he showcased his relentless energy when pressuring the North Macedonia defense and combining effectively with Kane to set up Rashford's goal. At the moment, he seems to perform at a higher level for his national team than for his club.

Unfortunate to receive a booking despite winning possession - the disappointment was evident on his face when the card was shown. Once again, he displayed composure on the ball and effectively contained Elmas during North Macedonia's infrequent attacking moments. However, his offensive contributions were not as proactive as they were in Malta.

The wide grin on his face said it all as he exited the field clutching the match ball. This marked his first career hat-trick, and it was truly remarkable. His first goal showcased power, the second was a stunning strike, and the third was cleverly taken. While Harry Kane's name is listed first on the team-sheet, he has now solidified his place as the next in line.

Harry Kane - 9

He scored one goal from the penalty spot and another from open play, showcasing his consistent ability in front of the net. Additionally, his relentless pressure on the opposition was instrumental in England's third goal, for which both Rashford and Henderson should be grateful. Saka's goal-scoring record is poised to become truly impressive as he continues to excel on the field.

Marcus Rashford - 9

His performance throughout the year has been nothing short of extraordinary. Initially considered an outsider for the World Cup squad, he has proven to be a revelation at Old Trafford this season. Watching him play on his home ground, it was almost as if he was donning a Man Utd shirt. He effortlessly outplayed Stefan Askovski, making him appear helpless on the field.

Substitutions

Conor Gallagher (replacing Henderson in the 58th minute) - 5

Energetic but not particularly effective... And isn't looking England's answer from the bench against bigger tests right now.

Jack Grealish (for Rashford, 58) - 7

A surprise in some ways to feature given the week he's had, but rewarded Southgate's trust with an assist barely six minutes after coming on.

Phil Foden (for Saka, 59) - 6

Couldn't follow up a strong cameo in Malta with quite the same performance. One shot and no chances created in half an hour.

Kalvin Phillips (for Rice, 59) - 7

Couldn't really miss from six yards out but you've got to be in the right place to score them. Just as tidy if not more so than Rice on the ball.

Callum Wilson, who replaced Kane in the 74th minute, displayed a positive attitude on the bench. He eagerly awaited his opportunity to enter the field, coinciding with Kane's successful penalty. However, Wilson would have preferred to have been substituted a few moments earlier and been given the chance to take the penalty himself. In comparison to his performance in Malta, Wilson had lesser involvement in the game, only managing to make four touches.
