Raphael Dwamena, a former Ghana national football team player, passed away at the age of 28 after collapsing during a match, according to a statement released by the Ghana Football Association. The association expressed condolences to Dwamena's family during this challenging period.
"Raphael represented Ghana wholeheartedly and paid his dues to the country until his unfortunate passing. We will forever miss him for his dedication to the National Coarse.
"Rest In Peace Raphael."
No official information has been disclosed regarding Dwamena's death, but video footage suggests that he collapsed during a match between KF Egnatia and Partizani, both teams from the Albanian top division, in the 24th minute on Saturday. A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) exhibits Dwamena collapsing on the field, prompting players from both teams to quickly gather around him. Medical staff attended to him while an ambulance was summoned to the pitch.
Dwamena suffered a collapse in October 2021 during a match between his former team Blau-Weià Linz and Hartberg in the Austrian Cup. However, he made a full recovery and later resumed playing. Throughout his career, Dwamena has represented clubs in Spain, Switzerland, Austria, and Denmark.
Levante, one of Dwamena's previous clubs, offered a heartfelt tribute to the striker.
"Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of Raphael Dwamena, a former player of Levante," stated the club.
