The Research Institute has made a name for itself with its innovative experiments in the Arkhium Stock and the exceptional intellect of its researchers, who remain determined to revolutionize the waters of Fontaine.

The ruins in the new Genshin Impact area provide players with a glimpse into the failures of something that held great potential. The stories behind the numerous experiments conducted by the Fontaine Research Institute are concealed within Cipher Puzzles scattered throughout the two regions. These puzzles can be deciphered using Energy Terminals and Viewfinders, new devices that players should familiarize themselves with in Fontaine.

This guide will provide a comprehensive list of all the locations and methods for unlocking barriers and ciphers. Furthermore, finding and unlocking all six Cipher Puzzles will earn Travelers the Hidden Achievement: "The Calendar of the Future is Longer Than the Diary of the Past."

Cipher Puzzle #1

Starting from the Statue of Seven in the Liffey Region, players need to turn around and proceed down the staircase ahead of them. After descending two flights of stairs, they will encounter an Energy Transfer Terminal to their left. There will be a barrier in front of it, with an Exquisite Chest located behind it.

Upon activation, players must direct their attention towards the first Viewfinder that appears on the screen in front of them. This will reveal a hidden puzzle adjacent to the Viewfinder. Within this puzzle, players will be able to see the white Cipher. To unlock the passage and access Cipher Letter (VI), all Travelers need to do is aim their square target directly at the Cipher.

The next four locations are accessible through the same teleport waypoint as they are within the vicinity of each other.

Cipher Puzzle #2

Teleport to the waypoint located directly in front of the Experimental Field Generator Boss. Afterward, pivot and gracefully glide in a northwestern direction towards the ruins of the Executive Office. Prior to entering the office, players must secure the Ousia Block found on the second floor. This Block will be conveniently positioned near a window-like opening, requiring players to scale the wall in order to obtain it.

Without delay, swiftly descend and pass through the opening leading into the Office. Inside, players will come across a Fixed Storage Device with Pneuma attached to it. To disable this device, players must strike it with the Ousia Block they currently possess.

Once the task is finished, players will need to ascend back to the second floor in order to reach the Energy Terminal. The terminal itself will be protected by a Clockwork Mek, and once it is vanquished, the Energy Terminal will be accessible, allowing players to uncover the white Cipher Letter (V).

Cipher Puzzle #3

In order to find the next puzzle, Travelers can use their teleportation ability to return to the waypoint near the Experimental Field Generator and proceed to the lower floor. Players have two options to reach the floor below: they can either gracefully glide downwards or choose to take the stairs located on the right. It would be more efficient for players to directly descend through the hole in the ruins in front of the teleport waypoint and glide towards the west, leading them to the Energy Terminal.

To begin, players will need to grab the Ousia Block located behind them. This block will be placed on top of the wall. Afterward, they should hit the Energy Storage block in order to remove the Pneuma application on it. Once the Energy Storage block turns blue, players can proceed to the Energy Terminal on their right. From there, they should aim at the target in order to unlock Cipher Letter (II).

Cipher Puzzle #4

The next area can be accessed by proceeding behind the Experimental Field Generator boss. Players should teleport back to the previous waypoint and enter the boss arena. From there, they need to ascend to the upper floor where they will find an Energy Terminal directly ahead. Activating this terminal and directing it towards the Cipher on the wall will unlock Cipher Letter (III).

Cipher Puzzle #5

Once the previous puzzle has been solved, players can proceed to the Materials Office located towards the east. Here, they will discover the fifth Cipher. To unlock this Cipher, players must successfully finish the Fontaine Research Institute Chronicles Quest, which becomes accessible after conversing with Chalmet in the Materials Office.

After this is done, they need only access the Energy Terminal beside her and aim it at the Cipher Puzzle on the opposite wall. This will unlock the Cipher Letter (I).

Cipher Puzzle #6

To find the ultimate Cipher Puzzle, venture to the Central Laboratory Ruins. Teleport to the waypoint situated to the north to gain entry. Descend gracefully to the crumbling ruin beneath and proceed to the basement. Here, numerous Energy Terminals can be found. Embark on a straightforward path down the corridor, before making a left turn towards the end.

They will come across an Ousia Block that must be retrieved and utilized on the Energy Storage Block located at the entrance, to eliminate the Pneuma. After activating the device, they can access the cage and collect the Energy block.

The Energy Block will be initially red, requiring Energy transfer to activate. To accomplish this, players must activate the Energy Terminal at the corridor's end and align the target with the blue Energy Block. By clicking the button, the Energy can be retrieved and deposited onto the red Energy Block.

Retrieve the transformed blue Energy Block and position it in proximity to the red Energy Terminal. This will grant access to the previously locked Energy Terminal, as the cage will be unlocked. Travelers simply need to align it with the Viewfinder once and solve the displayed Cipher Puzzle.

Players will gain access to the final Cipher Letter (IV) and receive the Hidden Achievement: The Calendar of the Future is Longer Than the Diary of the Past.
