Cliff Bleszinski hints at the next Gears of War title, indicating his satisfaction with what he's heard from a writer on the project.
The rumored cancellation of two new IPs by The Coalition indicates a shift towards prioritizing Gears 6, which might not be completed until 2026. Even though Cliff Bleszinski had left the industry earlier, he has shown interest in offering consultation for Gears 6.
Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of the popular third-person shooter franchise Gears of War for Xbox, has hinted at the possibility of a new installment in the series being developed by The Coalition. It has been approximately four years since the release of Gears 5 in 2019 and nearly three years since the well-received Hivebusters DLC. Fans of the Gears franchise have eagerly anticipated the next chapter, especially amidst rumors that The Coalition has prioritized Gears 6 over two other potential projects.
After dedicating two decades to Epic Games, where he worked on the Unreal games and created Gears of War - a flagship Xbox franchise that has sold over 41 million copies - Cliff Bleszinski departed from Epic in 2012. This decision came shortly after the highly successful launch of Gears of War 3. Since then, Bleszinski established his own development studio called Boss Key Productions. Unfortunately, two years after the studio's first game, a multiplayer arena shooter called Lawbreakers, Boss Key Productions closed its doors.
Now, with rumors circulating that The Coalition is forging ahead with the next installment of the popular Gears series after purportedly shelving two new intellectual properties, Cliff Bleszinski shared his thoughts on the rumors he himself has come across. Taking to Twitter, the visionary creator of Gears of War disclosed that a personal acquaintance of his, who happened to be a writer on Gears 5, had privately reached out to him, presumably divulging some insights into the franchise's forthcoming ventures. Cliff left it at that but conveyed his growing intrigue by including a GIF featuring Leonardo DiCaprio's character from Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained declaring "You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention."
Taking all of this into consideration, it appears evident that CliffyB is pleased with the information he received from his writer friend. Recent rumors suggest that Gears 6 may not be ready until 2026, indicating that the game is likely still in its early stages of production. Although Cliff Bleszinski left the video game industry in 2018, he has expressed interest in providing input for the next Gears game following the departure of Rod Fergusson. It is possible that CliffyB may return to the franchise, but this remains to be seen.
Regardless of CliffyB's involvement, it seems that the release of the next Gears of War title may be distant. The game's storyline will have to make decisions based on a significant choice players made in Gears 5. Nevertheless, the fact that the franchise's creator is satisfied with the progress from the project's writer is a promising sign for fans that Gears 6 is heading in the right direction.
Gears 6 is rumored to be in development.
