Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah and Lola Tung as Belly in ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Peter Taylor/Prime Video
Casalegno, 23, exclusively told We on Thursday, June 29 that there is a possibility of the Prime Video series deviating from the original events in the books, hinting at a potential shakeup in the endgame of the central love triangle for fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty book series.
The actor, portraying Jeremiah Fisher, mentioned that he didn't overly focus on his character's future arc during the filming of season 2.
"I aim for authenticity in that aspect. Although I am aware of where he ultimately ends up and what unfolds, I don't place excessive emphasis on that. Jenny Han, the writer and showrunner, has crafted it so exceptionally well that I am able to naturally reach that point without needing to force it in a particular direction," Fisher shared while promoting his collaboration with Bomb Pop. "Therefore, despite my knowledge of his destination, I strive to approach it day by day because that's all we can do. We should simply embrace the present and make the most of our time."

Based on the book series with the same title, The Summer I Turned Pretty tells the story of Belly Conklin (played by Lola Tung) and her relationships with childhood friends Conrad Fisher (played by Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher. As the two brothers start vying for Belly's affections, she embarks on a journey to navigate her feelings for each of them, leading up to a decision in the final book.
Following the release of season 1 on Prime Video, Han, aged 42, hinted that her portrayal of the show might deviate from the events depicted in the books.

When asked in June 2022, she emphasized the importance of balancing fan expectations and creative direction for the show. She explained that while her main priority is to satisfy fans of the book, it is also crucial for viewers to recognize that this adaptation in a new medium might not be identical. These considerations are always at the forefront of her mind.
Han stated, "Although I don't want to give away too much, the books have been available for quite some time. The show can take unexpected turns. I approached it with an open mind, exploring numerous possibilities."
In response, Casalegno commended Han for successfully leading the cast through the storylines in every season.
"Having Jenny involved in the show feels like a cheat code. Just having her there to bounce ideas off of is amazing because, you know, she literally created Jeremiah, Conrad, and Belly in her books," he shared with Us. "Being able to discuss with her what she envisioned for a scene is incredibly valuable. As an actor, it effortlessly enhances the creative process."
