Manchester City Women's manager Gareth Taylor has agreed to a one-year contract extension, prolonging his tenure with the team. Taylor, who was initially appointed in May 2020, successfully led the team to their first trophy victory in the Women's FA Cup final against Everton. His previous deal was set to expire at the end of June.

Under Taylor's leadership, Manchester City secured a victory in the Conti Cup in March 2022 by defeating Chelsea 3-1. Additionally, they made it to the FA Cup final during that same season, though they were ultimately defeated by the Blues at Wembley. Despite an impressive 16-game unbeaten streak during the 2022/23 campaign, Man City finished fourth in the WSL, resulting in a missed opportunity for Champions League football. Nonetheless, they advanced to the semi-finals and quarter-finals of the Conti Cup and FA Cup, respectively.

"I am thrilled to have signed a new contract with the Club. It feels incredible to have sealed the deal. I am delighted to extend my stay at City for another season and cannot wait for the 2023/24 season which I am eagerly looking forward to."

During my time at the helm, we have seen an increase in investment, more exposure, and greater professionalism across the board. It's an exciting time for women's football, and I'm proud to be a part of it. However, we still have a long way to go in terms of closing the gender gap and ensuring that women's football is given the same respect and resources as men's football."

Winning trophies in my first two seasons was a stroke of luck, but this past year has been equally fulfilling in a different way. What has given me immense satisfaction is seeing the admirable progress that the team has made, and the potential they possess to do great things for our football club.

"I know that there is pressure on us to succeed, but I enjoy that - I have always challenged myself throughout my career and that's now more important than ever as a coach.

"I am determined to push myself and this team to reach our full potential. With the support of my colleagues and staff, I am confident that we can turn close calls into victories and take our game to the next level," said Gareth. The club's managing director, Gavin Makel, expressed his satisfaction with Gareth's decision to stay on for another year.

Our team is a dynamic mix of seasoned veterans and rising stars, all united by a passion for the beautiful game and a drive for success on the field.

Gareth is a shining example of a coach who fully embodies the City Football Group approach. Watching him develop and hone his skills over the past three years has been a true pleasure.

"Nils (Nielsen) and I are very much looking forward to continuing our work with him next season alongside this amazing group of players, with the future being incredibly bright for Manchester City."
