Microsoft has launched an updated Xbox Series S with 1TB memory, available for purchase directly from Microsoft.
The Xbox Series S offers a cost-effective digital option compared to the Xbox Series X, emphasizing gaming experience at 1080p and 1440p resolutions. As noteworthy titles like Starfield are introduced, the appeal of Xbox Game Pass further rises, providing a budget-friendly means to enjoy these games.
Microsoft has released an upgraded version of the Xbox Series S console, boosting the system memory to 1TB from the previous 512GB. The new console, available in Carbon Black, is being launched ahead of highly anticipated games like Starfield and Forza Motorsport. Currently, it can only be purchased directly from Microsoft, but other retailers will stock it at a later date.
Unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase in July, the updated Xbox Series S offers the same features as its 512GB predecessor but aims to be a more affordable digital alternative to the Xbox Series X. However, there are some technical compromises due to the lower price. The Xbox Series S is optimized for gaming at 1080p and 1440p, compared to the Series X's focus on 4K resolution. Nevertheless, users can enhance their experience by subscribing to Xbox Game Pass, which allows them to fully utilize the smaller, more affordable console's high graphics capabilities in a compact form factor.
The 1TB Xbox Series S is now available for purchase directly through the Microsoft Store, starting at $349. This console is made from post-consumer recycled (PCR) resin and features the same Carbon Black matte finish as the Xbox Series X. Users can also choose to upgrade the system memory for an additional $50. The package includes the Xbox Series S console, an Xbox Wireless Controller with two AA batteries, and all necessary cables. Upon starting up the console for the first time, users will need to update the Xbox operating system to the latest version for optimal performance. Microsoft recently released a firmware update to improve system stability across the Xbox ecosystem.
Just one day after the early access for Starfield began, the 1TB Xbox Series S was released. Starfield, set to be released on September 6, offers a gaming experience similar to Skyrim and has garnered significant attention. Despite its $69.99 price, Xbox and PC gamers can utilize Game Pass for a more affordable way to try out the game.
The September lineup for Xbox Game Pass is exceptionally profitable, thanks to the inclusion of Starfield, Sea of Stars, and the Persona series. It is yet to be determined the extent of the immediate impact that the new Xbox Series S console will have.
