Gunfire Games released a new patch for Remnant 2 that fixes bugs and improves gameplay, but it also nerfs the powerful Nightfall and Enigma weapons.
Nightfall's rate of fire was toned down due to its excessive damage output in comparison to other long guns. Additionally, Enigma's area-of-effect damage and magazine size were decreased.
In a future update, the developer intends to continue refining Enigma to ensure a balanced gameplay experience, as it currently possesses the ability to bypass enemy armor. The alterations made were generally well received by players, as they encourage a more diverse style of play.
Gunfire Games has released a new major patch for Remnant 2, which includes bug fixes and improvements to enhance the player experience. However, in this update, two of the game's most powerful weapons, Nightfall and Enigma, have been nerfed. This is the developer's second update since the game's release in August, following a recent hotfix for Xbox consoles. Remnant 2 initially received positive reviews and was well-received by fans of the 2019 ARPG Remnant: From the Ashes. The game's diverse range of weaponry was praised, although players quickly discovered that some weapons were significantly more effective than others.
The Nightfall, a terrifying long gun, topped the list of severely broken weapons. It could only be acquired by defeating Nightweaver in Remnant 2. However, the game developers recently released an update that reduces the rate of fire for this weapon in both Standard and Dreadwalker modes. The developers explained that the original version of Nightfall was dealing excessive damage compared to other weapons. Even the strongest alternatives (with active Mods) provided nearly 20% lower DPS. In order to align Nightfall's power with other high-damage long guns, Gunfire decided to restrict its fire rate.
In the recently released update, Gunfire has made changes to Remnant 2's Enigma handgun, which was previously considered the best choice for close-range combat since its release in July. After reevaluating its capabilities, Gunfire determined that the shock rods from Enigma were too effective at clearing areas. As a result, the AOE burst damage of the rods in Overload mode has been decreased from 40 to 30. Additionally, the damage dealt by the rods when firing the handgun's primary fire has been reduced from 75% to 65%.
Furthermore, Gunfire has also decreased the magazine size of Enigma from 30 to 25. However, the five extra bullets have been added to the weapon's ammo reserve, which is now limited to a maximum of 125. Although Gunfire is satisfied with the changes made in Nightfall, they have acknowledged that they are still working on balancing Enigma. Specifically, the fact that the weapon completely ignores enemy armor has been identified as problematic. The studio plans to address this overpowered quality in a future update once they have analyzed the numbers further.
The response from the fanbase towards this recently released update appears to be largely favorable, as many players of Remnant 2 believe that both Nightfall and Enigma continue to be among the top-tier weapons in the game. The decision to nerf these weapons has effectively balanced the gameplay by making other equipment more competitive, thus promoting a wider range of playstyles without penalizing those who do not rely on a small number of overpowering weapons.
Remnant 2 is currently accessible on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
