Gal Gadot remains optimistic despite the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3. Following the success of the first DCEU film from the Zack Snyder era, Wonder Woman in 2017, it was expected that Warner Bros. would reunite Gadot and director Patty Jenkins for Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020. However, their collaboration on the planned threequel was ultimately scrapped due to the rebranding of the DC Universe by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
In an interview with Total Film (via Games Radar), Gadot expresses her contentment with her current situation, despite the setback of Wonder Woman 3. She appreciates the freedom to pursue stories that she wants to bring to the screen, rather than waiting for projects to come her way. As an example, she mentions her upcoming role in Netflix's spy thriller Heart of Stone.
Being able to start and cultivate stories that ignite my passion is truly remarkable. The freedom of not being confined to my home, anxiously waiting for the next opportunity, fills me with a sense of empowerment. It's a fulfilling experience that keeps me fully engaged and alive.
In addition to pursuing my personal projects, I will continue to work as an actress-for-hire. However, the ability to explore and bring to life stories that deeply resonate with me, whether they originate from my own imagination or from collaborations with like-minded individuals, is an extraordinary privilege.
[It's] something that I'm so grateful for and I am definitely going to continue that because it's worth it. I'm very, very excited and humbly proud.
Will Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman Be Part Of James Gunn's DC Universe?
Safran and Gunn were brought in by Warner Bros. to revitalize the struggling DC movie franchise. Currently, there is a lineup of confirmed projects scheduled for release in the coming years that will lay the groundwork for what is now referred to as the DC Universe. However, Wonder Woman 3 seems to be missing from the lineup, following the cancellation of Jenkins' plans for the third installment in December 2022.
Gadot's portrayal of Diana Prince is not over just because Wonder Woman 3 is not part of the confirmed DC Universe lineup. She has made surprise appearances in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash, both of which are expected to kickstart a soft reset of the previous iteration of the DC franchise. In The Flash, Wonder Woman is the only original Justice League member to appear in the movie's opening sequence. Regardless of the nature of her cameos, it effectively establishes that she is still an active player in the expanding DC multiverse and can be reintroduced at any time.
Although Wonder Woman 3 is not included in DC Universe's Chapter 1 – "Gods and Monsters" lineup, it's worth mentioning that there is an HBO Max series in development set in Themyscira called Paradise Lost. It is unclear if this is a reimagining of the previously announced Wonder Woman spinoff movie focused on the Amazonians. However, it is a project that could potentially involve Gadot's portrayal of the Themysciran princess.
