Overwatch 2 players were held hostage in a Quick Play match by a superior enemy team, leading to a frustrating 30-minute game.
Quick Play games in Overwatch 2 are intended to have balanced teams, but occasionally, the teams end up unevenly matched.
While certain players showed sympathy towards the victim, others noted that the penalty for leaving the match was not solely determined by this particular incident.
A team of Overwatch 2 players recently experienced being held hostage in a Quick Play match by a superior enemy team. These opponents decided to camp near their spawn point instead of capturing the objective. The match lasted for more than 30 minutes due to the enemy team's disruptive behavior.
Quick Play in Overwatch 2 is intended to be a relaxed game mode where players of similar skill levels face off against each other. However, not all Quick Play matches in Overwatch 2 are evenly balanced. Despite the game's efforts to prevent one-sided matches, such situations do occur frequently.
On Reddit, a fan of Overwatch 2, known as Onion Head, recently recounted a distressing experience during a Quick Play session. They found themselves pitted against a significantly more skilled opposing team who not only trapped them in their spawn area but also repeatedly eliminated them without bothering to capture the objective. As the match entered overtime, Onion Head's adversaries tactically stepped on and off the capture point to prolong the game for an additional 10 minutes. After enduring this torment for half an hour, Onion Head finally gave up and left the match, only to discover that they would have to wait another 30 minutes before being able to join a new match.
The opponents in Onion Head's match essentially turned it into a ruthless slaughter. In the images they shared, it is evident that the opposing team accumulated an astonishing number of kills. Notably, the Overwatch 2 healer character, Baptiste, had the lowest count with 61 eliminations, while their enemy Tracer boasted a staggering 114 eliminations and inflicted over 26,000 damage. It is apparent from these statistics that the Overwatch 2 match Onion Head experienced was far from balanced, with most of their team being backfilled during the course of the game.
Upon seeing Onion Head's post, Overwatch 2 fans expressed sympathy towards their situation. Many shared their own experiences of being stomped and expressed frustration at how common it seemed. Players were displeased that Onion Head was punished for leaving the game, especially considering the disingenuous tactics employed by the enemy team.
However, some players noted that Onion Head's 30-minute suspension was not solely because of this specific game. In Overwatch 2's new Quick Play system, players receive a 10-minute suspension after leaving four out of their last 20 games, and a 30-minute penalty for leaving six or more. Despite this, the majority still believed that Onion Head should not have been penalized in this particular instance. It is hoped that Overwatch 2 will implement measures to prevent similar situations in the future.
