The staff of the Frieren anime has officially announced the release of season 2, along with a new trailer and key visual, following the debut of Episode 16 on December 22, 2023. Season 2 is highly anticipated and will start airing on January 5, 2024, covering the First Class Mage Exam arc from the manga.
The Frieren anime, also known as Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, is based on the fantasy manga series of the same name by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe. The anime premiered on September 29, 2023, with a special 2-hour episode. After airing 16 episodes weekly, the anime is now preparing for its second cour.
Frieren anime will resume with Season 2 starting January 5, 2024
The Frieren anime's official website and X (formerly Twitter) handle have announced that Season 2 will premiere on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11:40 pm JST and will continue to release episodes weekly until March. The broadcast time has been shifted from 11 PM to 11:40 PM due to an extension of the Friday Roadshow.
In addition, a new promotional video has been unveiled. The video features a memorable interaction between Frieren and Himmel the Hero, and then transitions to the party's arrival at Auberst, where the Elven Mage must pass the First Class Mage Exam in order to obtain the necessary Mage certificate for entry into the Northern Highlands.

Notably, the newest trailer introduces fresh faces set to join the Frieren anime in season 2. The alluring characters and their captivating battles beautifully capture the essence of the upcoming season.
The latest update includes information about the new cast members. Azumi Waki, who played Hinata Tachibana in Tokyo Revengers, will be joining the Frieren anime as Kanne, and Sayumi Suzushiro will be taking on the role of Lawine, a Third-Class Mage. Here are the names of the other newly announced cast members:

The opening theme for season 2 of the anime Frieren has been announced, performed by the popular J-Rock duo Yorushika. The song, titled Haru, is featured in the latest trailer for the anime. The group's composer, N-Buna, has also shared his thoughts on the song.

In addition to the promotional video, opening theme song, and details on additional cast members, the official team behind the fantasy anime also revealed a new key visual, intensifying the excitement for the anime adaptation of the First Class Mage Exam arc.

The artwork portrays Frieren using magic, while characters like Lawine, Sense, Wirbel, Denken, and other skilled Mages are featured in the background. In contrast to the previous key visuals, the new image presents the Elven Mage in a unique aura.
In the second cour, the original cast and staff will be returning to reprise their roles. Keiichiro Saito will continue to lead Madhouse Studios, while Tomohiro Suzuki oversees the series' scripts. As a hard fan of the Frieren anime, I am thrilled about the announcement of Season 2. The first season captivated me with its heartwarming story, stunning animation, and lovable characters. I can't wait to see what new adventures await Frieren and her companions in the upcoming season. The new trailer and key visual have only heightened my anticipation, and I am eagerly counting down the days until January 5, 2024.
The introduction of new cast members adds even more excitement to the mix. Azumi Waki, Sayumi Suzushiro, Kisho Taniyama, Ikumi Hasegawa, Shouhei Komatsu, Jiro Saito, Eiji Hanawa, Kanae Ito, Shizuka Ishigami, Haruka Terui, and Tarasuke Shingaki are all talented voice actors who will undoubtedly bring the new characters to life.
