Matthew Perry's former Friends costars expressed their deep sorrow over his unexpected passing. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer released a collective statement to We on Monday, October 30, stating, "The loss of Matthew has left us completely shattered. We were more than just colleagues; we were a family. While there are no words to adequately convey our grief, we will take the time to mourn and come to terms with this incomprehensible loss."
"We will provide further information when we are capable to do so," the statement expressed. "Currently, our condolences and affection go out to Matty's family, friends, and all those who cherished him globally."
The renowned actor tragically passed away at the age of 54 on Saturday, October 28, in what appears to be a drowning incident. Responding to a call regarding cardiac arrest, authorities discovered Perry unresponsive in a jacuzzi at his Los Angeles residence.
There was no indication of any wrongdoing, although detectives specializing in robbery and homicide are currently conducting an investigation into Perry's death. Perry gained widespread recognition when he landed the role of Chandler Bing on NBC's sitcom Friends. He featured in the show, which aired from 1994 to 2004. Perry and his fellow cast members maintained their friendship even after pursuing their own individual careers.
In his memoir, "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir," Perry openly discussed the challenges he faced during his time on the set of Friends, including his battle with drug and alcohol addiction and how it impacted his career. Following the publication of the memoir, an exclusive source revealed that Perry's former co-stars were incredibly pleased with his achievement.
“All of them are incredibly supportive and proud of him for being honest and finding closure in multiple aspects,” an insider shared. "Before its release, there was definitely a concern that he may have revealed even more embarrassing secrets."
The source added, "Even though he maintains a positive attitude, there is still an underlying nervousness because he has dedicated himself completely to this project. It has been a difficult process to delve into the details of his darkest days and share the secrets he kept hidden for so long. However, he is pleased with the outcome."
