15 years and 260 days old, Francesco Camarda donned the iconic black and red striped jersey of AC Milan on Saturday, breaking the record as the youngest debutant in Serie A history. The striker came on as a substitute for Luka JoviÄ in the 84th minute during his team's 1-0 win over Fiorentina, surpassing the previous record held by Wisdom Amey, who was 15 years and 274 days old when he made his debut for Bologna in May 2021, as reported by Sky Sport Italia.
Milan's win against Fiorentina ended their winless streak and allowed them to maintain their third-place position in the league, trailing five points behind Inter Milan as the leaders.
"Francesco is a great young guy; he's putting in good work and we could really use his energy. Despite his youth, he's very mature. We were all thrilled for him. I could practically be his grandfather," Milan manager Stefano Pioli said to Sky Sport Italia, as reported by ESPN.
Camarda has made nine appearances for AC Milan in Italy's under-19 league, Campionato Primavera 1 TIM, and has scored one goal this season. Following his historic debut in Serie A, Camarda's teammates, including France's all-time leading goalscorer Olivier Giroud, rushed to congratulate him, with Giroud referring to him as his "rossonero little brother" on Instagram.
