Former Rep Tom Suozzi gets nominated by New York Democrats for the special election, vying to replace expelled Republican Rep George Santos

Former Rep. Tom Suozzi has been nominated by New York Democrats for the special election to replace expelled Republican Rep. George Santos. Suozzi previously represented the district on the north shore of Long Island for three terms before leaving to pursue a primary challenge against New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, which was ultimately unsuccessful.

"Tom Suozzi has demonstrated a strong commitment to advocating for his constituents, preserving the suburban lifestyle on Long Island and Queens, and proposing practical solutions to address the everyday struggles of the American people," stated Jay Jacobs and Rep. Gregory Meeks, the Democratic Party chairs for Nassau and Queens counties.

New York's special election regulations stipulate that the district's nominees are chosen by the county party leaders.

The special election to fill the seat is scheduled for February 13.
