Chris Harrison is making a return to television with his wife, Lauren Zima, following his departure from The Bachelor in 2021.
Harrison, 52, took to Instagram on Wednesday, March 6, to share the exciting news. In a video post, he announced that he and Zima, 36, will be embarking on a new chapter in their television careers at Merit Street Media, with a warm welcome from Dr. Phil McGraw.
Harrison shared that he and Zima got married in November 2023 and revealed that they have joined @meritstreetmedia, a new television network launched by @drphil. The TV host expressed his excitement, mentioning that there are “many reasons” why their new venture is the “perfect fit.” He also expressed his anticipation to reconnect with viewers soon.
Zima playfully joked with her husband about their new venture, commenting, “What’s more of a commitment...tying the knot or teaming up to host a show together? : ) I adore you and I'm thrilled for you.”
Harrison is set to return to television by joining Zima as a cohost for a morning show on McGraw’s network, premiering on Tuesday, April 2. The show will be filmed in Dallas, Texas, at the studios of Merit Street Media.
Harrison, who resides in Texas with his spouse, will take on the role of host and creator for a new dating show on the network as part of a larger agreement. In addition, Harrison will make appearances on Dr. Phil Primetime series hosted by McGraw.
McGraw shared with Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday that the dating show has elements of dating, but it offers a fresh and unique approach. According to McGraw, "It is a complete game-changer that will captivate viewers almost instantly. It is truly remarkable."
After spending two decades working on ABC's The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise, Harrison found it an easy decision to take on another relationship show. Which former Bachelor would you like to see return for a second season?
"People have known and loved me for twenty years as the host of The Bachelor, so yes, we will be producing a reality dating show," he shared with the outlet. "I've always said, 'This is the most dramatic show ever.' Now, we aim to make those words a reality with this dating show being the most dramatic ever - you can count on that."
Harrison's return to television comes after three years, during which he received attention for defending Rachael Kirkconnell, the winner of season 25 of The Bachelor, when her past racially insensitive actions came to light.
Shortly after Harrison requested Rachel Lindsay to show kindness towards Kirkconnell in February 2021, he was removed as the host for season 17 of The Bachelorette.
Despite Harrison apologizing for his comments, ABC decided to part ways with the host completely in June 2021. The network stated, "Chris Harrison is stepping aside as host of The Bachelor franchise. We appreciate his many years of work and wish him success in his future endeavors."
Harrison announced on Instagram that he will be leaving his role as host of The Bachelor franchise. He expressed his gratitude to Bachelor Nation for the amazing memories they have created together and shared his excitement for the new chapter ahead.
