The Big Picture
For All Mankind Season 4 brings the alternate history sci-fi series closer to the present day, reaching the year 2003.
The show's creators initially planned for "six or seven" seasons, and they have now surpassed the midway mark. Throughout the series, the advancement of technology and the development of characters across generations are portrayed, delving into alternate possibilities and potential futures.
Apple TV+'s hit series "For All Mankind" is approaching its fourth season, bringing it closer to present-day in its alternate history sci-fi storyline. But for show creators Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert, there is the question of when the series should naturally come to an end. Season 4 takes us to the year 2003, introducing new story arcs based on the alternative science explored in the show.
In an interview with Steve Weintraub from Our website, Nedivi and Wolpert discussed various topics including new characters, the intricate timeline of the series, and the future plans for the show. When asked about the show's long-term planning and potential conclusion on Apple TV+, Nedivi revealed their ambitious goal of crafting the story across "six or seven" seasons. With the upcoming fourth season, viewers will have passed the halfway mark in this journey.
Nedevi expressed, "We had an extremely ambitious plan in mind." He further stated that they initially mapped out the show for six or seven seasons, and they have managed to adhere to their major objectives thus far. Although changes are inevitable each season, the writers are given flexibility to deviate from the original plan if necessary. Currently, they find themselves beyond the halfway mark, which is both captivating and fulfilling. While it is common for TV shows to envision a grand arc in the beginning, Nedevi admitted that, even with their lofty ambitions, they did not anticipate discussing Season 6 so early on. Yet, here they are, about to premiere Season 4.
What is 'For All Mankind' About?
Nedevi sees the show's greatest achievement in its portrayal of technological advancements and the growth of characters across generations. It provides a thought-provoking glimpse into alternative paths humanity could have taken in the past. As the series progresses, it transitions from exploring "what could have been" to imagining "what might be" in our own time. The opportunity to witness the evolution of both the show and its characters, spanning multiple generations, is truly remarkable. The goal is to continue the story all the way to the present, offering a fascinating perspective on how different the world could have been. This anticipation fuels our excitement for the future.
Returning for the new season are Joel Kinnaman, Wrenn Schmidt, Krys Marshall, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, and Coral Peña, along with a lineup of fresh faces. Among the new additions are Toby Kebbell, Tyner Rushing, Daniel Stern, and Svetlana Efremova.
