A highly entertaining shonen comedy manga is set to receive an anime adaptation.
The announcement has been made for the anime adaptation of 'Tis Time for "Torture," Princess, with plans to release the series in January 2024. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, known for his work as a screenwriter on iseki anime adaptations like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, as well as fantasy and slice-of-life series such as Do It Yourself!!, will be directing the series. The studio responsible for the adaptation is Pine Jam, which recently brought us the anime adaptation of Paradox Live.
In the comedic story of 'Tis Time for "Torture," Princess, two warring nations find themselves in a predicament when the princess of the Human World's kingdom is taken captive by the villainous Hellhorde. Despite the antagonistic situation, the kingdoms have strict rules against resorting to physical torture, even for prisoners of war. However, Torture Tortura comes up with a clever plan to extract information from her captive. She uses delicious treats to entice the princess, ultimately persuading her to reveal intel (often proving to be of little value). Alongside the princess is her loyal sword, Ex/Excalibur, playing the role of the straight man amidst his master's eccentric antics.
The studio has unveiled the initial promotional video for the series, providing a glimpse into the storyline and characters. Within the video, Princess can be seen longing for the delectable food presented before her, while her captors plot various methods to torment her. In addition, a poster showcasing the upcoming anime and character designs has been released, featuring the menacing Hell-Lord as the main antagonist. Notably, the voice behind this demonic foe is Tesshō Genda, renowned for his notable portrayals of both Batman and Optimus Prime in the Japanese voice acting realm. Alongside Genda, the cast includes Haruka Shiraishi as Princess, Chikahiro Kobayashi as Ex, and Shizuka Itou as Torture Tortura.
The serialized manga "Torture," Princess originated from the inventive mind of Robinson Haruhara and the artistic talents of Hirakei. Currently, the manga is being published on the Shonen Jump+ manga website, with its launch taking place in April 2019. Furthermore, the Manga Plus app announced that it would showcase the series on its website during the same year. As of now, the manga has amassed 12 volumes compiled in tankobon format, although an official English release has yet to occur.
