Final Destination Franchise: One Crucial Story Decision that Needs to be Avoided

Final Destination Creator Urges Franchise to Steer Clear of One Critical Story Choice, Highlighting the Irony of the Request

Summary

Final Destination creator wants the franchise to avoid the cynical ending where everyone dies, and instead bring back survivors for a more hopeful message.

Reddick has faith in the resilience and capacity of individuals to extend their lifespans, exemplified by his own mother who defied doctors' expectations by living to the age of 97.

Confirming its production, Final Destination 6 will be helmed by co-directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, although Reddick will not participate in the project.

The creator of the Final Destination franchise, Jeffrey Reddick, believes that one major story mistake should be avoided. Established as a horror movie franchise with the release of the first installment in 2000, Final Destination has since had four sequels, with the latest being Final Destination 5 in 2011.

Reddick expresses his opinion on what the franchise should steer clear of in the next installment. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the creator states his disapproval of the idea that everyone dies at the end of the film series. Instead, he wishes to bring back some survivors and convey a more optimistic message about human resilience and the capacity for individuals to extend their lives. Read Reddick's full quote below:

I dislike the concept of everyone dying in [the films], as it seems too pessimistic. It raises the question of why we would watch if everyone is bound to die in the end. This made me push for the inclusion of survivors, as I want the idea to convey that while death is inevitable for all of us, we have the ability to prolong our lives.

This belief was reinforced by my mother's experience. Despite undergoing cancer tumor surgery at 87, doctors predicted she wouldn't survive. However, she defied their expectations and lived on for ten more years, remaining mentally sharp. It has shown me the strength that we possess as individuals, even if it often goes unnoticed.

What Is Next For The Final Destination Franchise?

Final Destination Franchise: One Crucial Story Decision that Needs to be Avoided

Final Destination, known for its brutal and gory death sequences, focuses on a character who narrowly avoids death and sees visions of future disasters. Surprisingly, the franchise's creator, Reddick, sees the end of Final Destination differently.

Despite the release of a new entry in 2011, Final Destination 5 will not mark the end of the series. Final Destination 6 has been confirmed and will be co-directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, although no release date has been announced yet. As for the cast, there are no confirmed members, but there is a possibility of William Bludworth (Tony Todd) making a return. Bludworth, who has appeared in multiple entries, is known for his mysterious nature and understanding of death. There are even theories suggesting that he could be personified as the Grim Reaper, adding an interesting angle to the story.

Reddick will not be participating in Final Destination 6. The screenplay will be written by Guy Busick, Lori Evans Taylor, and Jon Watts. It is hoped that these screenwriters will heed the words of the creator of Final Destination as they move forward with the project.
