The Turkey Football Federation stated on Sunday that they are in touch with their representatives and government officials about the incidents that took place during and after the match between Trabzonspor A.Ş. and Fenerbahçe A.Ş. in the Trendyol Super League.
They emphasized that actions like those seen in football, a sport associated with friendship, peace, and brotherhood, are never acceptable.
The federation emphasized that once the investigations are finished, those responsible for the incidents will face criminal sanctions to prevent future occurrences. CNN has contacted Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe for their comments.
After the match, Trabzonspor coach Abdullah Avci expressed to BBC Sport that Turkish football is currently in a state of chaos, with constant high tensions preventing the healing power of football from being utilized.
Fenerbahçe manager Ismail Kartal also commented, questioning the tense atmosphere and stating that everyone has the right to celebrate. He emphasized the importance of overcoming differences, practicing tolerance, and using common sense to foster mutual understanding.
