According to Reuters, a collision between two trains in southeast India on Sunday has resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals and left 27 others injured. The incident occurred in the Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh when an oncoming train collided with a stationary train that had stopped due to a break in an overhead cable. The stationary train was en route from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to Rayagada in Odisha.

The collision resulted in the derailment of two coaches on the stationary train, carrying over 90 individuals, according to an official statement given to Reuters.

The initial investigation indicates that the collision was caused by "human error" in which the stationary train overshot the signal, as per a statement released by the country's railway ministry.

A separate train accident in Odisha four months ago resulted in 275 fatalities and over 1,000 injuries. Following the collision that occurred on Sunday, rescue operations are currently in progress at the accident site, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that all the injured individuals have been relocated to hospitals.

The Chief Ministers Office of Andhra Pradesh announced on X that it had instructed officials to promptly implement relief measures to ensure immediate medical attention for the injured. It also advised nearby districts to dispatch first responders to the scene.
