Fans divided over new live-action image of Snow White

The release of a new live-action Snow White remake has sparked heated discussions among fans, and now a recently revealed image has ignited even more controversy on social media Twitter is buzzing with debates surrounding the use of CGI dwarves in the film

The upcoming Snow White remake is causing a split among fans, and the release of a first look image has sparked further social media debate.

Disney has been bringing its iconic animated films to life in live-action versions, with recent successes including Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. Now, it is Snow White's turn to be reimagined as a live-action princess.

The original film, released in 1937 as the pioneer of feature-length animated movies, instantly became a sensation and has since earned a cherished status as one of the most beloved animated films in history. Consequently, the live-action adaptation faces a tremendous amount of pressure to meet the high expectations.

Regrettably, the new remake appears to be struggling against negative sentiments such as Rachel Zegler hate and debates surrounding its themes. Adding to the controversy, a recent still from the film has further ignited disputes.

Twitter debates CGI dwarves

An image of Snow White has been unveiled, featuring the princess alongside CGI dwarves. This decision has sparked some debate, as it was initially believed that the dwarves would be replaced by various magical creatures.

In the face of actor Peter Dinklage's criticism, accusing Disney of hypocrisy in their promotion of diverse casting choices, despite depicting "seven dwarfs living in a cave together," it seemed that the brand had intended to eliminate "and the Seven Dwarfs" from both the title and the film. However, it appears that such a significant alteration to the source material did not ultimately occur.

And so, Twitter (or X) finds itself perplexed. RJ, a user, raises the question, "Will the movie actually feature the seven dwarves? I was under the impression that they were meant to be magical creatures." In contrast, others like Frank J. Fleming, express their delight in the return of the dwarves, stating, "we were successful in pressuring them to alter the dwarves. It brings to mind the Sonic debacle all over again."

In the meantime, the film's utilization of CGI faced criticism from various users. BitSaga exclaimed, "Sweet mother of uncanny valley," MCU Portal shared their response, "First look at my next nightmare!" and Preetam Rao questioned, "What's the likelihood of it being cancelled or the script being completely altered?... Because that would be preferable."

One user, Lofti Pixels, put the blame on Peter Dinklage, stating, "So Peter Dinklage fought fiercely for a group of individuals to take job opportunities from individuals of shorter stature, and now they have been terminated and substituted with CGI? And all of this occurred during an actors strike that was determined to secure employment for human actors?"

Others came to Dinklage’s defense, with Allan Mott stating that “Blaming Peter Dinklage because Walt Disney made a terrible decision about a live-action remake they shouldn't have made or at the very least completely reimagined is the epitome of ignorant behavior. The problem isn't that real dwarf actors were denied an opportunity; it's that Hollywood only considers casting them when it comes to fairy tale and/or fantasy films. Studios need to improve and find ways to cast little people in roles that don't marginalize them. It's really that straightforward.”

According to a report by Variety, the remake of Snow White, directed by Marc Webb and written by Greta Gerwig, will star Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot. The film will also showcase new music from Pasek & Paul, the duo behind Dear Evan Hansen. However, it has been recently announced that the release of the film has been delayed until March 21, 2025.
