The latest addition to the slasher franchise Scream, Scream 6, has received an unusual tie-in with a Calm sleep story narrated by the iconic villain, Ghostface. Known for donning a white rubber mask and black cloak, Ghostface's identity changes with each film, but the character's signature voice is maintained through the use of a voice modulator by the different culprits who emulate the original killers from the first Scream movie in 1996. Recently, Calm, the popular meditation and sleep app, released an experimental sleep story featuring the voice of Ghostface from Scream 6.
Why Ghostface's Calm Sleep Story Is Scary Good
The story opens with Ghostface submitting an audition tape to the Calm office, but it quickly becomes clear that he's not interested in a traditional role. Instead, he delivers a sleep story that paints a peaceful picture of a New York City apartment, complete with soothing tones and calming white noise. However, the threat of danger looms in the background, as he hints at the possibility of an intruder with a knife.
The Scream 6 cast brought back a number of familiar faces, including the young cast from Scream 2022 who had survived the previous film. Intrepid reporter Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox, also returned, as did Hayden Panettiere's character Kirby Reed from Scream 4. But perhaps most notably, the voice of Ghostface, portrayed by Roger L. Jackson, made a comeback, despite not being seen on screen.
The Ghostface voice, whether performed by Jackson or a talented mimic, is perfect for a calming ASMR experience despite its menacing undertones. Its ability to lull potential victims into a sense of false security before revealing its true nature is what makes it so effective in the thrilling phone call sequences of the Scream franchise. This is exemplified in the opening scene of the original Scream and has continued to captivate audiences in subsequent films, such as Scream 2 and the upcoming Scream 2022. The Scream 6 promo simply showcases the authentic and unadulterated nature of the Ghostface voice.
