F1 Reign interrupted by Astonishing Monitor Lizard Invasion in Singapore

Unforeseen chaos ensued during the F1 Grand Prix practice session in Singapore as monitor lizards boldly infiltrated the track, leaving drivers and spectators in awe

During a Formula One practice session in Singapore on Friday, drivers and onlookers were surprised by the sudden arrival of a pair of scaly visitors. Videos shared on the official Formula One YouTube and X (formerly known as Twitter) channels captured the moment when a monitor lizard casually strolled across the race track at the Singapore Grand Prix. In response, drivers skillfully maneuvered around the sizable reptile while officials used yellow flags to alert others of the potential danger.

According to Reuters, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner commented, "It will take a courageous marshal to venture out and retrieve one of those lizards. Hopefully, they will return to their resting place shortly." Shortly after, another lizard entered the scene, showing no signs of concern despite the loud noise of the engines.

"Ah, theres a lizard again on the track, a smaller one this time," Dutch world champion Max Verstappen exclaimed over the radio.

"Maybe Godzilla had a kid," a race engineer replied.

Verstappen had to swerve in order to avoid the creature, marking his second encounter with them on the track since 2016. Additionally, both Mercedes' George Russell and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz were overheard expressing concern about the presence of the lizards over the radio.

Singapores Straits Times newspaper reported that a lizard met a gruesome fate, seemingly getting run over by one of the cars. Water monitors, which are a substantial species of monitor lizard, are frequently seen in Singapores parks and rivers. These reptiles can reach lengths of up to two meters (6 feet) and weigh as much as 19 kilograms (43 pounds).
