Oppenheimer surpassed Barbie at the box office this weekend, a first since the movies premiered in July. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the biographical film features Cillian Murphy in the role of the renowned American theoretical physicist and "father of the atomic bomb." With its popularity among both audiences and critics, the movie has already shattered numerous box office records. Despite this, Barbie has maintained its dominant position at the box office.
According to ScreenDaily's report, Oppenheimer raked in $38.1 million during the August 25-27 weekend, emerging as the highest-grossing film worldwide during that three-day period. Barbie secured the second spot with $35.3 million, experiencing its first defeat to Nolan's World War II movie. Nevertheless, Barbie continues to reign supreme overall, earning a staggering $1.34 billion globally, compared to Oppenheimer's $777.2 million.
