The man who allegedly racially abused Rio Ferdinand may face a second trial as the jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court informed the judge on Friday that they were unable to reach a majority verdict.
Mr. Arnold is refuting the allegations of racially aggravated harassment, alarm, or distress, and as the jury has been discharged, the Crown Prosecution Service has announced its intention to pursue a retrial, which may take place in November.
Ferdinand provided testimony during the trial and is expected to be summoned as a witness once again for the retrial. Arnold, 32, faced allegations of racially abusing Ferdinand during the Wolves' match against Manchester United at Molineux in May 2021. At the time, Ferdinand was fulfilling his role as a pundit for BT Sport.
