The attention in the latest installments of One Piece has turned towards Hachinosu island, unveiling a distressing hostage predicament that brings about severe repercussions for both the Marines and the Blackbeard Pirates. Vice Admiral Garp finds himself in a critical state of injury, leaving enthusiasts pondering whether any action will be taken to rescue the esteemed "Hero of the Marines."
Captain Koby, imprisoned on Hachinosu, successfully escapes with the help of Perona and releases other hostages. However, their escape is impeded by one of Blackbeard's captains. On the island, Garp arrives with a Marine force and confronts his former student Kuzan. Unfortunately, Garp sustains injuries while protecting Koby from an attack.
The outcome of Garp's situation remains uncertain, with several possibilities. Blackbeard may use him as leverage to establish Hachinosu's legitimacy, or he could be handed over to Cross Guild or publicly executed. While a potential rescue mission by the Marines is feasible, it would face challenges. Fleet Admiral Sakazuki may oppose the rescue, but Commander-in-Chief Kong continues to hold Garp in high esteem.
Recently, Eiichiro Oda has been delivering a series of action-packed chapters filled with revelations and lore, signaling the beginning of the Final Saga of One Piece. The focus has shifted from Vegapunk and the Straw Hats on Egghead Island to the events taking place on Hachinosu, also known as Pirate Island, which now serves as the base for the Blackbeard Pirates. A hostage situation led to a conflict between the secret Marine Unit SWORD and the pirates, resulting in dire consequences for both parties.
While the Marines managed to escape the island, they suffered a major loss with Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp being left behind due to his grave injuries. As Chapter 1088 leaves the fate of Garp uncertain, fans of One Piece will likely debate whether the Marines or the World Government will take any action to save the beloved "Hero of the Marines" from a potentially tragic demise at the hands of Blackbeard and his crew.
The Situation On Hachinosu
After surrendering to the Blackbeard Pirates in exchange for the lives of the accompanying Marines on Amazon Lily, Captain Koby found himself imprisoned on Hachinosu. Marshall D. Teach saw potential in using Koby as a bargaining tool to establish his control over the island due to Koby's reputation among the Marines. However, Koby managed to escape with the help of Perona, and also freed some of the other hostages held by the Blackbeard Pirates.
Their escape attempt did not go unnoticed by Avalo Pizarro, one of Blackbeard's Ten Titanic Captains, who utilized his Shima Shima no Mi powers to prevent their breakout. Meanwhile, a powerful Marine force led by Monkey D. Garp arrived on the island and dealt a devastating blow to the pirates. Amidst the escalating conflict, Garp found himself facing off against his former student Kuzan, previously known as Admiral Aokiji, who had recently joined Blackbeard's crew. Unfortunately, Garp had to intervene when Koby fell into a cunning trap set by Blackbeard's subordinates, who posed as innocent civilians in danger.
When Koby valiantly rushed in to rescue them, Garp fearlessly shielded his comrades from an attack by Shiryu of the Rain, a notorious captain under the command of Blackbeard. Shiryu, employing his Suke Suke no Mi powers, had stealthily approached Garp. As a result, Garp sustained severe injuries from Shiryu's sword and struggled to remain on his feet. In a turn of events, Koby deployed his devastating Honesty Impact, obliterating the colossal arm of the Blackbeard Pirates' captain, Avalo Pizarro, who was hell-bent on eradicating the escaping Marine vessel. With all the Marines accounted for, Garp commanded a retreat and, acknowledging his own uncertain destiny, entrusted the future to the aspiring generation.
A Last Ditch Effort By SWORD
Garp's current whereabouts remain a mystery as he has been declared missing in action. This situation draws striking similarities to the abduction of Ace by Blackbeard, which ultimately led to the Summit War of Marineford prior to the time skip. Various potential outcomes exist for Garp's predicament. One possibility is that Blackbeard may utilize him as a bargaining chip to legitimize Hachinosu as a recognized nation under the World Government. This would be the most likely scenario given Garp's renown and influence within the Marines. Alternatively, he could be handed over to the Cross Guild in exchange for his hefty bounty or even face a public execution; although, these options appear highly improbable considering Garp's prominent stature.
A follow-up rescue mission by the Marines to save Garp is plausible, but there are obstacles due to their prior commitment in freeing Koby from Blackbeard's clutches. Additionally, if Blackbeard and his Ten Titanic Captains return in full force to Hachinosu, a full-scale war is likely, making it difficult to save Garp again. Alternatively, a smaller force from the special unit SWORD, like Garp did when rescuing Koby, could launch a quick assault. This would minimize the risk for the World Government and the Marines since they have no connection to this elite unit. Despite defying direct orders, individuals like Koby, Helmeppo, and other Garp loyalists would not hesitate to save their mentor, and influential Marines like Sengoku or Tsuru may support this operation.
Sakazuki's Potential Opposition
On the other hand, some members of the Marines might oppose their involvement on Hachinosu. One notable figure is Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, formerly known as Akainu, who holds no respect for Garp, despite his heroic status among the Marines. Sakazuki's disdain stems primarily from Garp's connection to Dragon and Luffy, which Sakazuki sees as a tarnish on his own reputation. In return, Garp also harbors animosity towards Sakazuki, even expressing his desire to avenge Ace's death by killing the Fleet Admiral during the Marineford incident if not for Sengoku's intervention. Consequently, it is highly likely that Sakazuki will try to hinder any rescue operation, although he would need to go through Commander-in-Chief Kong, who holds a high regard for Garp.
Furthermore, Garp openly displays his contempt for the World Nobles, which could serve as another reason why the Marines may opt not to save him. His capture offers the Five Elders and Celestial Dragons a way to eliminate someone who could potentially instigate rebellion against the prevalent corruption within the World Government, presenting him as a martyr who died heroically in battle. This would also prevent any negative publicity surrounding the government's handling of the situation on Hachinosu, considering Garp's long-standing positive reputation in the public eye. Regardless of the outcome, fans of One Piece can anticipate even greater intensity in the future as more details about Garp's ultimate fate unfold, with the possibility of Luffy and the Straw Hat crew undertaking a rescue mission.
