Belgian cartoonist Hergé introduced the intrepid reporter Tintin and his loyal white fox terrier, Snowy, in 1929. Since then, Snowy has accompanied Tintin on numerous thrilling adventures across various mediums including comic books, TV shows, and feature films. Now, Snowy will join Tintin once again in the upcoming game Tintin Reporter - Cigars of the Pharaoh, developed by Pendulo Studios and Microids. Our website recently had the opportunity to speak with product manager Charles Leveugle about the process of bringing the iconic Snowy to life in a video game.
In Cigars of the Pharaoh, which is one of Tintin's earliest adventures, the story unfolds before Tintin meets several recurring characters such as Captain Haddock or Bianca Castafiore. Consequently, Snowy takes on a significant role as Tintin's primary companion in the game. According to Leveugle, they had no choice but to rely on Snowy as "the one and only Snowy as a trustworthy supporting character." With his cleverness, loyalty, and knack for solving puzzles, Snowy proves to be an ideal companion for Tintin in this puzzle-filled game.
Snowy Will Solve Puzzles And Find Objects Alongside His Master
Leveugle from Our website confirmed that Snowy's role in Cigars of the Pharaoh will be as a fully-fledged sidekick, with his own significant contributions. He will be able to unlock dangerous situations, discover objects, solve riddles, and demonstrate various valuable skills specific to canines.
The initial trailer for Tintin Reporter showcased Snowy's involvement in the game, as he explored a tomb, utilized his sense of smell to investigate a mural, and even operated a vehicle alongside his owner. Snowy's complete role in the game remained undisclosed by Leveugle in order to avoid revealing a major plot twist.
Including Snowy in the game will enhance the overall adventurous atmosphere and provide players with challenging puzzles to solve. Leveugle anticipates that even experienced puzzle gamers will encounter difficulty while attempting to uncover the secrets of Pharaoh Kih-Ohsk's tomb. Staying true to Hergé's original comics, Tintin and Snowy will embark on thrilling adventures spanning Egypt, Arabia, and India, where they will dismantle a large drug smuggling operation. In this early escapade, the inexperienced young reporter Tintin would not have been able to conquer the smugglers, survive dangerous situations, and unravel the mystery of Kih-Ohsk without the invaluable assistance of Snowy's acute sense of smell, unwavering bravery, and unwavering loyalty.
There Is No Tintin Without Snowy
In the world of video games, animals aiding the main characters during their quests is a common occurrence. Well-known examples include Epona, Link's faithful steed, Yoshi, Mario's companion in adventure, and the numerous Pokemon that have accompanied their trainers through multiple game generations. Snowy may not yet possess the same level of recognition among gamers, but his role in Cigars of the Pharaoh and potential inclusion in future Tintin games could certainly establish him as a valuable addition to this illustrious list.
When questioned about which animals Tintin would pair up with if Snowy were not an option, Leveugle struggled to answer initially. In his perception, the duo is utterly inseparable, and it is inconceivable to have Tintin without Snowy. However, he proposed the possibility of Tintin teaming up with characters from other games published by Microids, such as the lasagna-loving Garfield or an entire "army of Smurfs." Perhaps, if Cigars of the Pharaoh achieves success, forthcoming Tintin Reporter games could feature crossover titles where Snowy has the chance to encounter these other notable gaming animals. This intelligent and problem-solving fox terrier would unquestionably hold his own against even the most renowned canines in the gaming realm.
Tintin Reporter: Cigars of the Pharaoh is scheduled to release on November 7, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

As a Gen Z netizen, I grew up playing video games and watching cartoons. Tintin and Snowy have always been one of my favorite duos, so I'm excited to see them come to life in a new video game. I think it's great that Snowy will be a fully-fledged sidekick in the game, with his own significant contributions. I can't wait to see how he helps Tintin solve puzzles and uncover secrets.
I also think it's important that the game stays true to Hergé's original comics. The Tintin comics are classics, and I'm glad that the game developers are taking care to respect the source material. I'm confident that Tintin Reporter - Cigars of the Pharaoh will be a great game for fans of the comics and video games alike.
