Fans have received many clues about what to expect in Bridgerton season 4, except for who will be the next main character.

The popular Netflix series, inspired by Julia Quinn's book series, follows the wealthy Bridgerton family as they navigate the quest for love in 19th century London. In season 1, the focus was on Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), the main couple from the first book, The Duke and I.

Season 2 drew inspiration from The Viscount Who Loved Me, featuring Anthony Bridgerton finding love with Kate Sharma. Although Benedict Bridgerton's love story with Sophie from An Offer From a Gentleman has not been explored yet.

In contrast, the focus of the third season shifted to Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington as depicted in Quinn’s book Romancing Mister Bridgerton. This change has left readers wondering who will be the main focus in season 4.

Showrunner Jess Brownell, who succeeded creator Chris Van Dusen, hinted at what's to come in April 2024. In an interview with TV Insider, she mentioned, "I won't spill any details, but I believe there are hints at the direction we're taking at the end of Season 3."

She added, "I'll leave it to the fans to dissect, but I do feel like we're giving a small peek into our plans."

Season 4 of Bridgerton has multiple potential siblings who could be the next focus of the series. Benedict, whose love story with Sophie was postponed, could be a strong contender for the spotlight. However, Eloise is also a top choice, having been a central character for several seasons. Her evolving storyline, especially her friendship with Penelope, could seamlessly transition into the upcoming season. In the fifth book of the franchise, To Sir Phillip, With Love, Phillip could be reintroduced as he forms a connection with Eloise.

Will Season 4 Face Shakeups From the Book?

Francesca, portrayed by Hannah Dodd, has become a character to watch out for in When He Was Wicked after a recast. Following Ruby Stokes' departure, Dodd has taken on the role and Francesca is set to have a more prominent role in season 3. However, the showrunner mentioned that there may be deviations from the original books. He explained, "I want to do justice to the stories and books. For Penelope and Colin, I decided to embrace romantic comedy elements. This season will include more humor and awkward banter, giving it a slightly different feel from the previous season."

Brownell is committed to making a change for the future.

"I believe that it is important to highlight queer love and share queer stories in a show about love in its various forms," Brownell shared with Pride in April 2024. "Bringing more queer joy to our screens is a top priority for me as the showrunner."
