Major Enhancements to Current Classes

Baldur's Gate 3 has received high praises from Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts for its faithful recreation of the RPG experience. Set in the Forgotten Realms, an integral part of D&D lore, BG3 not only brings the rich lore of Dungeons and Dragons to life but also incorporates a vast array of fifth edition D&D races, combat mechanics, and classes into the immersive video game setting.

The Artificer, a renowned class in Dungeons and Dragons, stands out as one of the most iconic. However, it's worth noting that this class is not originally featured in the core edition of the fifth edition of the TTRPG. Introduced in Eberron: Rising from the Last War (and also encompassed in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything), the Artificer exemplifies mastery over both arcane powers and mechanical innovation. Utilizing magic, this class possesses the remarkable ability to manipulate objects in a similar fashion to how others manipulate the elements themselves.

The Blood Hunter

Artificers are frequently chosen to portray engineer or mechanic-like characters, and they even possess a subclass that enables them to fabricate a Steel Defender construct companion. However, the initial release of Baldur's Gate 3 did not feature this class. Although Larian Studios is not typically associated with downloadable content (DLC), given the immense success of BG3, some players speculate whether the developer might reconsider and introduce Artificers to Baldur's Gate simultaneously.

The Blood Hunter may not be considered an "official" class in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. However, it holds a special place as a class designed exclusively for Dungeons and Dragons Beyond, in collaboration with the much-loved D&D show Critical Role. This unique class harnesses the power of Hemocraft, a profane magic that enables them to skillfully exploit their enemies' own blood. The Blood Hunter is a versatile and formidable hybrid caster.

Due to its exclusive availability on Wizards of the Coast's official online D&D service and its strong connection to Critical Role, it is highly unlikely that the inclusion of the Blood Hunter class in Baldur's Gate 3 will ever occur.

However, Matthew Mercer, who serves as the dungeon master for Critical Role, is also a renowned voice actor and happens to lend his voice to the character Minsc in BG3. With this involvement, there remains a slim possibility that the Blood Hunter may eventually find its way into BG3. In the meantime, players will have to patiently await the efforts of dedicated modders to bring this distinctive class to life.

Major Expansions To Existing Classes

BG3 impressively adapts 12 out of the 13 official Dungeons and Dragons classes, along with most of their standard subclasses. However, it does not provide a complete recreation of all official D&D classes and subclasses. In fact, the number of missing subclasses, including those from additional official materials, is comparable to the number of subclasses included in the game. Notable D&D subclasses absent in BG3 include:

Bard – College of Glamour, Eloquence, & Creation

Barbarian – Path of the Totem Warrior, Ancestral Guardian, Beast, & Zealot

Cleric – Death, Forge, Grave, & Twilight Domains

Druid – Circle of the Stars, Dreams, & Shepherd

Fighter – Arcane Archer, Cavalier, Psi Warrior, & Samurai

Monk – Way of Mercy, Astral Self, Drunken Master, & Sun Soul

Paladin – Oath of Conquest, Glory, Redemption, & The Crown

Ranger – Fey Wanderer, Monster Slayer, & Swarm Keeper

Rogue – Inquisitive, Mastermind, Phantom, Soulknife, & Scout

Sorcerer – Abberant Mind, Clockwork Soul, Divine Soul, & Shadow Magic

Warlock – The Celestial, Fathomless, Genie, Hexblade, & Undead

Wizard – Bladesinging, Order of Scribes, & War Magic

Rewritten content:

Including all content from Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition and its official expanded volumes in Baldur's Gate 3 would be an enormous task. However, there is hope that Larian Studios may eventually release expansions for the twelve existing classes in the game. In the meantime, players can rely on modders to enhance their experience.

Baldur's Gate 3 is currently accessible on PC and PlayStation 5, with an upcoming version for Xbox Series X|S under development.
