Series creator Mike White provided an update on the progress of The White Lotus season 3. The popular HBO show recently concluded its second season, which took a different narrative approach by focusing on marital struggles and transactional relationships while introducing a new branch of the resort in Sicily. These changes were well-received and contributed to the show's success both with audiences and critics.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, White disclosed that he is actively working on completing the scripts for The White Lotus season 3. He acknowledged that there are still many roles to be cast due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Despite this hurdle, White hinted that the upcoming season will be even more extravagant and unpredictable.
"I am currently in the process of finalizing scripts and eagerly awaiting the opportunity to begin casting. However, if the SAG strike is not resolved in a timely manner, we may need to postpone once again due to the show's recurring need for a new cast every season. Nevertheless, I am extremely enthusiastic to get started."
"The upcoming season of White Lotus is set to be a larger-than-life spectacle. It will be longer, grander, and even crazier. While I cannot anticipate how people will react, I personally am overflowing with excitement, which is a positive indicator for me. I am genuinely thrilled about the content we have in store for this season."
White co-wrote Migration, which is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on December 22.
What To Expect From The White Lotus Season 3
While the show's casting for The White Lotus remains a mystery, some key information about the plot and a familiar character from season 1 has been confirmed. It has been officially announced that the filming of The White Lotus season 3, planned for release in 2025, will take place in Thailand. Moreover, this particular installment set in Asia has been described as a satirical and humorous exploration of death, Eastern religion, and spirituality.
Following the eventful conclusion of season 2 of White Lotus, there was speculation about the possibility of continuing the story of breakout character Tanya McQuoid, played by Jennifer Coolidge. There were rumors about bringing back Tanya's assistant, Portia, portrayed by Haley Lu Richardson, who has some knowledge of the mysterious circumstances surrounding Tanya's drowning. While this hasn't been confirmed, the upcoming episodes will feature a connection to Tanya by reintroducing a familiar face.
Natasha Rothwell will be reprising her role as Belinda from season 1. In the first six episodes, Belinda had a negative experience with Tanya, which left her disheartened and distant. Once the actors' strike comes to an end, there will be keen interest in who will join Rothwell in the cast of season 3 of The White Lotus, as the Emmy-winning show has consistently delivered exceptional performances from its ensemble.
