Gamers can start preloading Bethesda's highly anticipated space RPG Starfield on August 9, ahead of its September 6 release date.
To prevent server overload issues like those seen during Baldur's Gate 3's launch, preloading is essential due to the game's whopping 125GB file size.
Bethesda is determined to provide a flawless gaming experience with Starfield. Xbox head Matt Booty guarantees that it will have the least number of bugs compared to any other game ever released by the developer.
Gamers eagerly awaiting Bethesda's upcoming space RPG Starfield can soon preload it onto their console or PC. Revealed at E3 in 2018, Starfield is anticipated to be a groundbreaking release for the Maryland-based developer, marking their first new IP in over 25 years. The game's expected success even caused some studios to delay their own releases to avoid competition.
Scheduled for release on September 6, 2023, for Xbox Series X/S and PC, Starfield has already prompted the launch of high-end merchandise. In June, Microsoft unveiled a special edition Starfield-themed controller and wireless headset, following leaked images that had circulated online. Bethesda has also shared details about the Starfield Constellation Edition, which includes an LPV6 Chronomark watch replicating the wristwatch featured in the game.
According to leaked information from various online storefronts, such as Amazon, gamers eagerly anticipating the release of Starfield will have the opportunity to alleviate their impatience by preloading the game starting from August 9. Given the game's large file size of 125GB, it is beneficial for as many people as possible to download the game in advance. This is evident from the launch of Baldur's Gate 3 on August 3, which lacked preloading and resulted in Steam's servers crashing due to the overwhelming number of players attempting to download the game's hefty 150GB simultaneously.
Starfield, alongside Mortal Kombat 1, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, is highly anticipated for the Fall 2023 season. With such high expectations, the Bethesda team is under pressure to deliver on September 6. Previous experiences have shown that heavily hyped games, like Anthem, Cyberpunk 2077, and No Man’s Sky in 2016, can lead to disappointment, affecting community trust in the gaming industry.
To avoid a similar outcome, Bethesda is working diligently and Xbox head, Matt Booty, has reassured fans that Starfield will have the least amount of bugs compared to any previous game from the developer. This is a significant promise, especially considering that players are still discovering bugs in Skyrim, which was released almost 12 years ago. Bethesda even delayed Starfield by nearly a year to ensure the game is thoroughly polished, and many gamers are eagerly anticipating the final product.
