Director Kirk DeMicco addressed the possibility of Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken crossing over into other DreamWorks film worlds, stating:
Kirk DeMicco expressed his admiration for his friend Tom McGrath, who worked on the movie Megamind, which DeMicco's son loves. The vibrant colors and comedic elements of Megamind lead him to believe that there might be potential for a fun collaboration. Additionally, DeMicco mentioned his interest in seeing a world where Berk from How to Train Your Dragon is situated above the kraken kingdom, delving into a unique world-building concept that combines dragons and krakens. These two ideas, with their appealing designs and comedic elements, stood out to DeMicco.
Why Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken And How To Train Your Dragon Would Be A Perfect Crossover
Among all the DreamWorks Animation franchises, How to Train Your Dragon appears to be the most suitable option for a crossover between Ruby Gillman and Teenage Kraken. Unlike the characters in Shrek, krakens are not magical creatures from fairytales, and they are not talking animals like those in Madagascar or Kung Fu Panda (although that would be an intriguing crossover). Dragons and krakens both stem from mythology rather than specific stories. It is easy to envision the fascinating visual concept mentioned by DeMicco, with "Berk on top and the kraken kingdom below."
Although it may seem a bit unexpected, DeMicco's other suggestion is also a valid one. In her film, Ruby Gillman demonstrates her mathematical genius, and although superheroes (and aliens) have not been introduced in the world of Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, there may be enough similarities between Gillman and Megamind to justify further exploration. For now, however, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken can simply enjoy her time in the spotlight.
