Original movie star expresses readiness for The Princess Diaries 3 return, sparking hope for Gupta's appearance in the highly anticipated threequel Excitement builds as fans eagerly await updates on the film announced in November

Sandra Oh, who starred in the original The Princess Diaries, is eager to make a comeback for The Princess Diaries 3. The first film followed the story of Mia Thermopolis (played by Anne Hathaway), who discovers that she is the secret heir to the kingdom of Genovia. Mia reluctantly works with Queen Clarisse (Julie Andrews) in order to embrace her future role as a monarch. The sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, delved into the possibility of Mia's marriage, leaving room for further development in her story.

The upcoming film, The Princess Diaries 3, is currently being developed and is set to continue showcasing Mia's adventures as a member of Genovian royalty. While Hathaway has expressed her readiness to return for the third installment, she is not the only one. Sandra Oh, who portrayed Vice Principal Gupta in the original movie, expressed her strong desire to reprise her role in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Oh mentioned that she has yet to hear from the creators of the new film, but her enthusiasm remains unwavering.

"I am ready for the Queen. Call me! I'm dying to see how Gupta has moved up in the world."

Could Gupta Appear In The Princess Diaries 3?

Gupta's role in The Princess Diaries is to highlight the contrasting treatment Mia receives before and after her royal status is revealed. Before the revelation, Gupta mostly disregards Mia, seeing her merely as a bystander at school. However, once Mia's royal identity is unveiled, Gupta showers Queen Clarisse with adoration and extends her attention to Mia. Gupta's endearing affection for Clarisse not only adds humor to the story but also serves as a clear indication of the tremendous changes Mia is about to experience.

If Gupta were to appear in The Princess Diaries 3, it is likely that she would serve a similar role in showcasing the public's perception of Mia. However, it is unlikely that Gupta would have a significant presence in the film since she holds the position of Vice Principal, which becomes less relevant once Mia has graduated high school. This explains why Gupta never had a major role in The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement. If a character is not needed, there is no reason to include them randomly, as it would feel out of place.

Considering the ending of the 2004 sequel where Mia accepts the love of Nicholas, portrayed by Chris Pine, The Princess Diaries 3 could potentially bring back Sandra Oh's Gupta as the Vice Principal of the school attended by Mia and Nicholas' child, if they were to have a family in the third film. Even if Gupta's appearance is brief, it would be a delightful way to complete the nostalgic journey for those who grew up watching the coming-of-age comedies.
