There is speculation that the restocks could align with a possible Super Smash Bros. announcement by Nintendo in September. However, this theory is not confirmed.
There are indications that Nintendo is considering a significant replenishment of amiibo in the near future. This suggestion arises from recently surfaced evidence. In April, the renowned Japanese gaming company restocked certain Zelda amiibo, which was seen as a strategic move preceding the release of Tears of the Kingdom on May 12.
Nintendo's first-party games have consistently incorporated amiibo support since the launch of their toys-to-life platform in late 2014. However, the availability of these figurines has been limited, typically tied to game releases and events.
Fortunately, it appears that Nintendo may be resuming production of popular amiibo in the upcoming months. Restock notifications from Greek storefront GameExplorers suggest that over two dozen Super Smash Bros. amiibo will be reprinted. The first wave of restocks is expected on August 28, with 10 figurines becoming available again. Additionally, a second wave is planned for November 10, which will include other amiibo not related to Super Smash Bros., according to the same source.
The fan who discovered the new reprint notices also speculated that Nintendo could be preparing to make a Super Smash Bros. announcement in September, right in the midst of the two restocks. They supported their claim by mentioning the partial Zelda amiibo restock that began in early January and was still ongoing when the company hosted a Nintendo Direct focused on Tears of the Kingdom a month later.
While this theory is highly speculative, the possibility of Nintendo hosting a product broadcast in late summer or early fall is not unlikely. In fact, the last time the company did not hold a September Nintendo Direct was in 2015. However, even if such an event takes place in 2023, it is uncertain whether it will include any news about Super Smash Bros., especially since Nintendo has not yet confirmed the alleged amiibo reprints.
