After years of tanktops easily being torn to shreds and donning black leather, Deadpool 3 finally features Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman in the mutant's iconic blue and yellow costume. Wolverine's big screen attire, faithful to the classic spandex worn by Canada's most esteemed export in comic books and animated series throughout the years, excludes the blue underwear visible on the outside. So how did director Shawn Levy of Deadpool 3 determine the ideal appearance for Wolverine? Levy clarified that he sought the counsel of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most passionate enthusiasts, referred to affectionately as the "nerdiest nerds."

Levy revealed to Entertainment Weekly that his team put in extensive effort and underwent numerous iterations and fittings to finalize Wolverine's appearance for the film. He also mentioned the benefit of being part of the MCU, which provided access to a passionate and knowledgeable group of Marvel enthusiasts.

The closest glimpse fans got of Wolverine wearing a comic book-inspired costume was in a deleted scene from The Wolverine in 2013. In this scene, Logan received a brown and tan outfit, complete with his iconic mask, as a gift from Mariko Yashida. Although X-Men: Days of Future Past contained subtle references to Wolverine's comic book origins in his battlesuit, it still remained a toned-down tribute to the original material.

The release date of Deadpool 3 seems uncertain as the movie has been taken off Disney's release schedule for the first half of 2024. Production was halted due to a strike called by SAG-AFTRA, the Hollywood actors union, who joined the striking writers that began in May.
