Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie is eager to reunite with the MCU's original Captain America, Chris Evans' Steve Rogers. Mackie took on the mantle of Captain America in Disney+'s Falcon & The Winter Soldier, succeeding John Walker, and Brave New World serves as his film debut in the role. From the sounds of it, he's already planning for his future in the Marvel universe.
In anticipation of the release of his video game adaptation Twisted Metal, Mackie expressed to Inverse his desire for his next Marvel movie to bring back Evans, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes for an epic, action-packed showdown involving all four characters.
“I would like for the three of us to get in a situation with [Chris] Hemsworth. I think the four of us would literally cause so much havoc.”
Secret Wars Can Bring Steve Rogers Back To The MCU
The notion of assembling yet another team of popular characters akin to the Avengers is undeniably captivating, despite the potential challenges it may present. With Chris Evans having evidently stepped away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and uncertainty surrounding Chris Hemsworth's future as Thor, the MCU does possess a rather convenient solution for reintroducing Evans into the fold, even if it has been somewhat overused: the Multiverse. However, for Anthony Mackie, this concept remains somewhat hazy.
"I’m still struggling to comprehend the Marvel universe, or whatever... I'm clueless. I don't even understand what the multiverse is. Man, I have absolutely no idea. I'm still trying to make sense of it all."
Introducing an alternate version of Steve Rogers wouldn't have the same impact as the original, despite the potential massive response from fans. An alternative approach would involve incorporating Captain America into Avengers: Secret Wars, utilizing Kang's time travel abilities to retrieve him (along with the Howling Commandos) from an earlier point in the Marvel timeline and joining them in the battle. This would prevent an overwhelming focus on multiple universes and allow Cap to participate before returning to his own time, ensuring that Steve Rogers' perfect ending in Endgame remains intact.
