Good news for fans eagerly awaiting the release of the highly anticipated third chapter of Deltarune! Toby Fox, the renowned creator of both the Deltarune series and the beloved independent game Undertale, has provided an update on the game's development. Undertale, released in September 2015, has garnered a devoted fanbase thanks to its compelling characters, captivating storyline, intelligent dialogue, and memorable original music. Toby Fox's latest project, Deltarune, a five-chapter series, has been in the works since 2018. While the first two chapters have already been released, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on the third chapter for over two years.
In a recent interview with Nintendo Everything, Toby Fox provided reassurance to fans that the development of Deltarune Chapter 3 is progressing smoothly. He mentioned that he and his team are currently wrapping up the final overworld area, which bears resemblance to the Queen's castle from the second chapter. Unlike its predecessor, this chapter will be fully playable from start to finish, featuring music that Fox composed back in 2016. While this chapter has presented its fair share of challenges for Fox, who likened some of the obstacles to requiring the force of a steamroller to address, he also assured fans that many of the elements involved have already undergone significant polishing.
Toby Fox emphasized the unique and unconventional nature of the newest chapter of Deltarune. He mentioned that there will be several unconventional gameplay elements this time and the story aspect will be less prominent. Despite feeling a bit self-conscious about the lightheartedness of it, Fox expressed his satisfaction in trying something different.
In addition, Fox provided an update on the upcoming chapters of Deltarune. He stated that some members of his team are currently working on small elements such as bullet patterns and puzzles for future titles. Fox assured that Deltarune Chapter 4 will offer a more standard experience for those who may not appreciate the direction taken in the third chapter.
Fans of Toby Fox's work are accustomed to lengthy wait times for updates on Deltarune's story. The release of Deltarune Chapter 2 came three years after Chapter 1, so this fan base is known for their patience. Even if it takes until 2030 for all chapters of Deltarune to be released, the Undertale fan base believes it will be worth the wait. Fortunately, it seems that fans won't have to wait much longer for Deltarune Chapter 3. Deltarune Chapters 1 and 2 can currently be found on PC, PS4, and Switch.
