Exclusive Insight: How Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Revolutionizes Character Progression for an Unforgettable Gaming Experience

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth disappoints fans by not allowing character import from Remake, but compensates with free materia for players who possess a Final Fantasy 7 Remake save file

Director Naoki Hamaguchi has clarified that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will not allow the importation of save file data from Final Fantasy VII Remake. In an interview with the official PlayStation blog, Hamaguchi emphasized that each installment in the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth series is designed to be played as an independent game, rather than a single game divided into three parts.

"Each game's balancing is done independently, so players cannot carry over their levels and abilities from one game to the next," explained Hamaguchi. However, Square Enix has provided special bonuses for fans who have played the previous game. As a reward, players with save files from Final Fantasy VII Remake and/or Final Fantasy VII Remake's Yuffie-centric DLC, Episode INTERmission, on their PlayStation 5 will receive summon materia in the new game, Rebirth. If players have saved files from Remake, they will receive a Leviathan materia, while those with INTERmission saves will earn a Ramuh materia. This ensures that players starting Rebirth won't have overpowered characters from Remake, but previous players will still receive a little extra power boost as a token of appreciation.

The new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth provided fans with an exciting glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming installment. The trailer showcased beloved locations such as the Golden Saucer and Costa del Sol, along with new mechanics for traversing the open world and improvements to the battle system from the Remake. Additionally, players can look forward to a variety of minigames, as well as appearances from iconic summons like Odin and Alexander. In terms of playable characters, Red XIII, who was not fully playable in the Remake, will be available in Rebirth. However, other characters that join the party during Rebirth's storyline will not be playable until the third entry in the trilogy, which is currently unnamed. According to Hamaguchi, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on February 29, 2024, exclusively for PS5. Preorders are now available for the game, which will be delivered on two discs.
