The Stormcloud Vapor controller may have a connection to Forza Motorsport, considering that Microsoft frequently unveils limited-edition controllers associated with games prior to their launch.
According to a reliable industry source, the upcoming variant of the Xbox Wireless Controller will be known as Stormcloud Vapor. This insider also revealed the release date and provided some additional insights about the upcoming device. Their report emerged online just a few weeks after Microsoft introduced the Jade Xbox controller as a tribute to Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo's ARPG Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
Microsoft has a history of frequently releasing special edition controllers dating back to the Xbox 360 days. In recent years, the company has stepped up its efforts in this area, with new gamepad announcements happening almost every month. In the past few months alone, Microsoft has unveiled multiple special edition controllers, and their latest offering is the Stormcloud Vapor.
According to industry insider Billbil-kun, the Stormcloud Vapor is set to be released on August 8th. Priced at $69.99, this is consistent with the standard pricing for first-party Xbox gamepads. Previous variants, such as the Lunar Shift and Sunkissed Vibes OPI controllers, have also debuted at this price point. The codename for this new controller is "Jemez," although there isn't much information available about its appearance. However, the name "Stormcloud Vapor" suggests a color palette featuring cyan-blue with hints of gray.
Billbil-kun also suggests that the controller might be associated with Forza Motorsport, a game set to be released on October 10. Although the supposed name of the controller doesn't seem to have a direct link to the racing series, it wouldn't be surprising for Microsoft to launch a limited-edition controller tie-in months before the game's release. Microsoft has previously followed a similar approach with the Starfield Xbox Wireless Controller, which has been available for purchase since mid-June, even though Bethesda's highly anticipated RPG is scheduled to hit the market in early September.
The Stormcloud Vapor version of the Xbox Wireless Controller is anticipated to have a distinct design, even if it has no direct connection to Forza Motorsport, the eighth installment of the acclaimed racing simulation series. This aligns with Microsoft's recent pattern of producing uniquely styled gamepads for their first-party games, including the negatively received Redfall.
Similar to most of Microsoft's gamepads, it is expected that the Stormcloud Vapor variant of the Xbox Wireless Controller will be made available in both the United States and Europe. According to a recent report, this piece of hardware is scheduled to launch shortly after Microsoft unveiled six Xbox consoles and controllers themed after Porsche.
