Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2's episode 9, titled "Subspace Rhapsody," is generating a lot of excitement. Actress Christina Chong, who plays Lieutenant La'an Noonien-Singh, was the one who came up with the idea for this mysterious episode. Chong stars alongside Paul Wesley's Captain James T. Kirk in the romantic and tragic time travel episode called "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow." The second season of Strange New Worlds has been receiving positive feedback, especially with episode 3 continuing the captivating legal drama from episode 2, titled "Ad Astra Per Aspera."
During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Christina Chong discussed her contribution to Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 9. Although not much has been revealed about the content, it has been suggested that this episode will take some bold storytelling risks. Read below to find out what hints Christina dropped about Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 9.
I did request this particular thing. Since season 1, I have been consistently approaching any writer who was willing to listen, saying, "Hey, how about considering this? And then, this exciting development could occur, followed by this, and..." However, I do have a habit of frequently pitching ideas to them. I am always searching for new possibilities and brainstorming what we could potentially do... This particular episode, which happens to be episode 9, encompasses one of my lifelong career aspirations. Astonishingly, they responded, "Oh, we were actually already contemplating that." So, I persisted even more fervently. (laughs) I continuously pushed for it. Then one day, [showrunner] Akiva [Goldsman] informed me that they were actually going through with it, and I nearly burst into tears. That's how overjoyed I was.
Could Strange New Worlds Episode 9 Be Even BIgger Than The Star Trek: Lower Decks Crossover?
It's hard to fathom, but whatever Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 9 entails may surpass the sheer audacity of the upcoming crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks. Aptly named "Those Old Scientists" and directed by Jonathan Frakes, this crossover showcases the animated Ensigns from the USS Cerritos, Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid, making their debut in the live-action realm. Infused with dialogue penned by Lower Decks' creator Mike McMahan, this rumored partially animated crossover unfolds as an uproarious comedy. Though it seems like a nearly insurmountable feat, Strange New Worlds episode 9 may just rise to the challenge.
La'an Noonien-Singh, a Starfleet Officer driven by duty, portrays a stern character on Strange New Worlds. However, behind the scenes, Christina Chong contributes a plethora of innovative ideas for this genre-blending, episodic series. The rest of the Strange New Worlds cast, along with co-showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, have dropped hints about episode 9, titled "Subspace Rhapsody," and the season 2 finale called "Hegemony." However, they have chosen to remain silent on the details of these episodes. It is highly likely that these episodes, like the ground-breaking "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow," are part of the bold artistic choices that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is making in season 2, promising a satisfying payoff.
