Despite the new Harry Potter reboot series offering a fresh perspective on the well-known Wizarding World, two of the original cast members from the franchise are open to making an appearance if given the opportunity.
Following the announcement of the upcoming reboot, several former Harry Potter actors have expressed their standpoint. After starring in eight films and dedicating a decade to bringing this story to life on the silver screen, the main trio is ready to move on. The recent Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts served as a heartwarming reunion filled with nostalgia, but it appears that any further collaboration ends there. However, there are a few other actors who are not as quick to dismiss the television reboot.
Daniel Radcliffe may earn a living playing a role selected by Weird Al to portray him, but Oliver and James Phelps have contrasting viewpoints. The actors who bring to life the mischievous pranksters, Fred and George Weasley, in the Harry Potter series, shared some insightful details with The New York Post. "I guess so," Oliver pondered when questioned about a potential return. "It's one of those situations where it's never really a closed chapter in your life... However, when it comes to our characters, it's a completely different matter – we no longer resemble high school students! If it does happen, we are just as clueless as you are. Nonetheless, it's heartening that the show generates a great deal of interest."
For at least one of the actors, resurrecting him as his previous character would be impossible. James Phelps portrayed Fred, who met a tragic death in one of the most senseless demises in Harry Potter. Amidst numerous casualties during The Battle of Hogwarts, it would prove challenging to bring back the twins in physical form. Additionally, credit must be given to Oliver Phelps, as it is unlikely they would reprise their former roles. The streaming platform, known for producing captivating teenage dramas such as Euphoria, would undoubtedly seek a younger cast, considering the actors have outgrown the age of attending Hogwarts. This presents the opportunity for dream sequences or even portraying entirely different characters. As Marvel has demonstrated, fans are willing to embrace any cameo if it carries enough heartfelt significance. However, even if they were to return, one must question if this is truly necessary for the franchise.
Numerous fans share the sentiment that Max's endeavor to revive Harry Potter comes too soon. The film franchise was a well-knit and largely faithful interpretation of the books. Ending a little over a decade ago, it almost feels disrespectful to recreate a franchise that held such profound meaning for book enthusiasts. Moreover, with J.K. Rowling involved as an executive producer amidst ongoing controversies in the media, it seems as though the time for Harry Potter has passed. Undoubtedly, beloved characters from the franchise will not be easily dismissed, but if fans had their way, they would find satisfaction in simply rewatching the films.
The Harry Potter franchise is currently streaming on Max.
