Nicholas Hoult continues to be a popular choice among fans for the role of Lex Luthor in the DC Universe. Fan art has now emerged depicting him in an armored version of the character for the upcoming film Superman: Legacy. Warner Bros. Discovery is placing significant importance on the DC Universe, with plans for an interconnected franchise led by filmmakers James Gunn and Peter Safran. While Blue Beetle will be the first DC character to have their own film in the coming month, Superman: Legacy will mark the official debut of the DC Universe in "Gods and Monsters," Chapter 1.
As speculation surrounding Hoult's potential casting as Lex in Superman: Legacy persists, fans are eager to see what he could look like as the iconic nemesis of Superman. A recent artwork by Clements Ink showcases the X-Men veteran in the classic armor often associated with the popular DC villain.
The Lexosuit made its live-action debut in Supergirl, with Jon Cryer's portrayal of Lex wearing it. However, Smallville almost introduced the armor before the Arrowverse, as it was referenced in season 8 through concept art for Lex's Project Prometheus.
Hoult's DC Universe Audition History Explained
When The Batman was reimagined as an Elseworlds project helmed by Matt Reeves, Hoult emerged as one of the frontrunners to portray the iconic Caped Crusader in the upcoming reboot. However, the coveted role ultimately went to Robert Pattinson, who is now slated to reprise his portrayal in The Batman - Part II, slated for release in the same year as Superman: Legacy. Hoult openly discussed his audition for The Batman, graciously acknowledging that Pattinson was the ideal choice for the creative direction Reeves intended for his universe.
In 2023, Hoult emerged as a frontrunner for the lead role in Superman: Legacy, alongside David Corenswet and Tom Brittney. However, Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan were ultimately chosen as Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Despite rumors, it is unclear if Hoult is still in the running for the role of Lex. Other contenders include Alexander and Bill Skarsgård. Only time will tell if Hoult will be cast in a DC Universe role, but Warner Bros. remains interested in him for various projects. Perhaps by the end of 2023, it will be confirmed whether or not Hoult will join the cast of Superman: Legacy.
