Butler filed a lawsuit in 2021, claiming that the film's production companies concealed profits, misrepresented revenue, and owed him a minimum of $10 million. Recently, Butler and the defendants reached a settlement, the details of which remain undisclosed.

Although it was confirmed in 2020 that Butler would return for the franchise's fourth movie, Night Has Fallen, there have been limited concrete updates on the project.

Gerard Butler, the star of the film Olympus Has Fallen, has resolved his lawsuit pertaining to the alleged withheld profits from the 2013 movie. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Olympus Has Fallen features Butler as Secret Service agent Mike Banning, tasked with protecting the President when heavily-armed terrorists infiltrate the White House. The film achieved great success, earning more than $170 million globally and leading to two sequels. In 2021, Butler filed a lawsuit against production companies Nu Image and Millennium Media, claiming that they were withholding a minimum of $10 million in profits from him.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Butler's lawsuit regarding the profits of Olympus Has Fallen has now been settled. The details of the agreement have not been disclosed. However, according to his contract, Butler was entitled to receive box office bonuses, 6% of the film's domestic revenue, 2% of its foreign revenue, and 10% of the net profits. Butler's lawsuit alleged that both Nu Image and Millennium Media concealed over $11 million in profit from the movie and provided false information concerning the film's domestic revenue. Following his successful rescue of the President in the first film, Butler reprised his role as Banning in London Has Fallen in 2016 to protect numerous world leaders. Most recently, he returned in Angel Has Fallen (2019), where he finds himself on the run after being wrongly accused of an attack against the President. While London Has Fallen surpassed the original in terms of box office performance, earning a whopping $205.9 million, Angel Has Fallen had the lowest earnings in the franchise, making $146.7 million.

Despite the decrease in box office returns for the latest installment, plans are already in motion to continue the franchise with Butler as Banning. In 2019, it was announced that three more movies were in development, with the first one officially titled Night Has Fallen in 2020. Ric Roman Waugh, the director of Angel Has Fallen and a collaborator with Butler on Greenland and Kandahar, is expected to return to direct the upcoming installment.

Unfortunately, there has been limited information regarding Night Has Fallen since its confirmation in 2020. In an interview with ComicBook.com earlier this year, Butler confirmed that the movie was still in progress, mentioning a script with an intriguing concept that requires additional work. The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike adds uncertainty regarding the timeline for the production of the third sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, especially considering Butler's involvement in other projects.
