The Item Shop in Fortnite is currently extensive and difficult to navigate, but Epic Games is testing a new layout that allows players to quickly jump to specific categories.
Fortnite is a game that can be played for free, but it makes money through microtransactions. The main way Epic Games earns revenue is through the Item Shop.
Currently, the new design for the Item Shop has been rolled out to 10% of the player base in order to gather feedback. It is unclear when or if the remaining players will also get access to this change.
Fortnite's Item Shop is set to undergo changes in the future, with some players already experiencing these modifications firsthand. As a free-to-play game, Fortnite allows players to download it on their preferred platforms without any cost. Although the game itself is free, Epic Games generates profit through microtransactions. Fans have the option to purchase V-Bucks, the in-game currency, which can be used to buy the Battle Pass, cosmetic items, or level up their accounts.
The Item Shop serves as the main destination for players to spend their V-Bucks, considering that a new Battle Pass is released every few months and buying account levels is generally avoided. Within the Item Shop, players can browse and purchase a vast array of cosmetic items, including emotes, weapon wraps, harvesting tools, back bling, packs and bundles, as well as skins. Ensuring the ease of navigation within the Item Shop remains a top priority.
When Fortnite Battle Royale initially launched, the Item Shop had a limited selection of items available each day. However, with the game's growing player base, more cosmetics were added, leading to a significant expansion of the Item Shop. The extensive range of options now makes it challenging for players to find specific items as they have to scroll through numerous categories. Fortunately, Epic Games is testing a more organized UI for the Item Shop, allowing players to easily navigate to their desired category. As a result, players will no longer need to aimlessly scroll through the entire list to discover new items or locate specific ones. Currently, ten percent of all players have access to this revised layout.
This change has been randomly applied to ten percent of Fortnite's player base to allow Epic to monitor feedback from fans. The purpose is to determine whether it should become a permanent modification. Unfortunately, the previous UI change in Fortnite did not resonate well with the majority of the community. Consequently, Epic Games is hesitant to introduce a new alteration until receiving predominantly positive feedback. Currently, it is uncertain when or if the remaining players will have access to the updated Item Shop UI.
Fortnite can be played on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
