Devastated by the possibility that his existence may be tied to his nemesis, the Master wiped out the Time Lords and allied with the Cybermen. This resulted in the creation of Cybermasters, a new form of Cybermen with the ability to regenerate using Time Lord bodies.

Before the Doctor could defeat them, the Master and his allies escaped Gallifrey and joined forces with the Daleks. Their plan was to capture the Doctor, allowing the Master to take over her body and her unique abilities, ultimately destroying her legacy. Despite temporarily succeeding in hijacking her body, the Doctor's allies managed to restore her. They defeated the Master's allies, leaving him stranded on an imploding planet. However, Dhawan's portrayal of the Master will continue in a Doctor Who audio drama by Big Finish, focusing on his character.

Dhawan's portrayal marked the return of the Master to their villainous persona, following a redemption arc in the previous incarnation.
