Collin Gosselin expressed his gratitude towards the significant adults who have supported him in achieving his most recent milestone. However, one person who was not mentioned in his appreciation post for his high school graduation was his mother, Kate Gosselin. In a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday, June 22, the 19-year-old gave a special shout-out to his father, Jon Gosselin, and his sister Hannah. He explained that while he wasn't initially convinced about making a graduation post since it is a common occurrence, he decided to focus on expressing his gratitude towards his mentors, friends, and, of course, his family.
Collin expressed gratitude towards his father, Jon, acknowledging him for imparting the value of "resilience" and consistently offering support even in situations where he takes on more than he can handle. He also expressed appreciation for his father's former girlfriend, Colleen Conrad, whom he considers a source of motivation for achieving success. Collin described Colleen as someone he envisions being by his side when facing life's challenges.
Colleen has remained involved in the lives of the children, even attending Collin's graduation. However, it was noticeable that Kate was absent from Collin's post. In previous interviews, Collin has described his relationship with his mother as worse than the average teenage kid's experience with their parent. He mentioned that his mom seemed to have her own agenda, and he was put in a difficult situation, but his main focus was to come out on top.
Collin's parents, who got married in 1999, became famous through their appearance on the reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8. The couple has twins, Cara and Mady, aged 22, as well as sextuplets named Collin, Hannah, Joel, Aaden, Leah, and Alexis, aged 19.
In 2009, Jon and Kate ended their relationship following allegations of Jon's infidelity. As a result, Kate was granted full custody of their children. (Jon later refuted these allegations in a 2019 interview with Dr. Oz.) In 2016, Kate made the decision to place Collin in the Fairmont Behavioral Health Institute, citing his requirement for specialized assistance.
Collin decided to reconnect with his father the following year and moved in with him. By 2018, both Collin and Hannah were residing with Jon. Collin expressed that his time in the institution played a role in his detachment from Kate. He stated, "After being there, I didn't have a relationship with her. Even prior to that, I don't believe we had much of a connection, and I think it only further deteriorated."
Collin expressed his belief that their time as reality television stars caused strain within the family even when the cameras were not rolling. He attributed this to the impact of being in the public eye, stating that it caused their family to drift apart and spend less time together.
Following Collin's revealing interview, an insider shared that Jon is still hopeful for a reconciliation between Collin, Hannah, and their mother. The source revealed that Jon's ultimate desire has always been for Collin and Hannah to repair their relationship with Kate.
