When we filmed Alita: Battle Angel, the entire universe portrayed onscreen was breathtakingly beautiful. Although no plans to continue the storyline have come to my attention, this longing to reignite the conversation has remained close to my heart. I strongly believe that there is much more to explore within that world, considering the immense scale of the original intellectual property.
While the movie didn't exactly bomb at the box office, its financial success was not enough to immediately convince studio executives to approve a sequel. However, the filmmakers displayed a clear interest in continuing the story, as evidenced by the ending of Alita: Battle Angel which set up the possibility of a follow-up film. Last December, during the release of Avatar: The Way of Water, producer Jon Landau emphasized his and James Cameron's desire to move forward with another movie.

Cameron further added fuel to the fire just days later when he and Rodriguez made a "blood oath" to create a sequel for Alita: Battle Angel. In addition to the director and two key producers being on board, actors from the film have expressed their interest in returning. Alita herself, Rosa Salazar, stated in 2019 that she would be willing to reprise her role. Christoph Waltz also commented on the potential sequel earlier this year, expressing his definite interest in returning if circumstances allow.
