A Star Trek fan noticed a subtle change in the exterior of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds compared to its appearance in Star Trek: The Original Series. In Strange New Worlds, Captain Christopher Pike commands the Enterprise, which is set a few years before Captain James T. Kirk takes over. While both Pike and Kirk command the same Enterprise, the starship's interior is larger and more luxurious in Strange New Worlds, and there have also been modifications made to the exterior. Twitter user Jörg Hillebrand (@gaghyogi49), who worked as a researcher for Star Trek: Picard season 3, pointed out that the neck of the Starship Enterprise in Strange New Worlds season 2 now has a curved shape instead of being straight. Why Pike's Enterprise Looks Different From Kirk's When It's The Same Starship
The sleek design of the Enterprise's now-curved neck not only connects the saucer section with the stardrive section but also houses engineering and the shuttle bay. Additionally, it seamlessly links to the nacelles, which serve as the power source for the ship's warp drive. This subtle modification of Captain Pike's Enterprise in Strange New Worlds grants it a distinctively sleek appearance, setting it apart from the more rigid and militaristic-looking Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series.Strange New Worlds, a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, presents a contemporary depiction of what TOS would be like if produced today, despite being created 56 years later. Captain Pike's Enterprise, the vessel that will later be passed on to Captain Kirk, remains unchanged in Strange New Worlds. However, it is likely that the Enterprise will undergo significant renovations to accommodate the over 400 crew members that will serve under Kirk, double the number of Pike's crew of the 200s. Hence, the spacious interiors of the Enterprise showcased in Strange New Worlds are presumably refurbished to accommodate the increased personnel.
In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the Starship Enterprise showcases more lavish interiors, including Captain Pike's quarters, which are far more opulent than Captain Kirk's utilitarian cabin in Star Trek: The Original Series. Additionally, certain features like the elegant Port Galley are absent from Kirk's Enterprise. In terms of the starship's exterior, the Enterprise in The Original Series exhibits more rugged and angular lines, potentially symbolizing the anticipated hazards Starfleet expects during Captain Kirk's five-year mission, in contrast to Pike's voyages in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
